Winter is the best season, school should be year-round, blue is the worst color: these are all examples of hot takes. For those who don’t know what a hot take is, it’s an unpopular or unique opinion about something. I asked some Servite Friars what some of their hot takes were. Stay tuned to hear their opinions, but disclaimer to all Timothée Chalamet fans, Crumbl Cookie fans, and “Star Wars” fans, please do not take this seriously because these are all subjective opinions!
First, junior Connor Pelonis stated, “Pineapple belongs on pizza.” Personally, I don’t think pineapple belongs on pizza, but like I said these are all subjective opinions. Fun Fact: Pineapple on pizza is the most popular in Canada.
Then, a direct hit to Rosary’s general population, Jackson Paul ’25 argued “Yeti over Hydro Flask.” I’m going to have to disagree with this one: not only am I more of a Stanley girlie, but I also prefer Hydro Flasks.
Servites’ librarian, Ms. G, gives us one of her hot takes: “Chocolate is bad.” This one is understandable because chocolate isn’t for everyone. In fact, my humble opinion is that chocolate is good, but it can sometimes be a bit dry and a little too chocolatey.
Next, from Rafa Orozco ’25, “Thanksgiving food is not all that.” I partially agree with this statement; it really depends on the person. For example, not all families might have the traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I mean, the meal is good, but there is a reason you only have it once a year.
Calen Reyna ’25: “Star Wars is not a good series,” I haven’t watched all the movies, but I think some are a little boring and slow; I also think the prequels are better than the newer ones. After watching the newer ones, I came to the conclusion that the 2.1 billion used to make the movies was for nothing.
Luke Vanskiver ’25- “Bread is overrated,” I strongly agree with this one. I don’t understand how some people are obsessed with bread. I never really think about bread, and this has to be one of my favorite hot takes because it is so random.
Winston Thai ’25- “Beaches are overrated and cats are not cute.” I partially agree: while I love the beach, I agree with the second half of Thai’s statement. I have always looked forward to summer, going to Newport and swimming in the ocean; I am more of a dog person. That said, I wouldn’t go as far as saying cats aren’t cute.
Servite’s Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach, Brandon Davis, gave me his hot take: “Crumbl Cookies are not good.” As a girl who searches up the Crumbl flavors every Monday, I definitely disagree with this one. Crumbl has never disappointed me, and I hope it never will. Royal, Clare Kaiser ’27 agrees with me, “I absolutely LOVE Crumbl cookies, if you were to ask me for my favorite one, I would say all of them!”
Lastly, from Jacob Johnson-Rico ’27, “Timothée Chalamet and Jacob Elordi aren’t really all that, they’re overrated.” Many Rosary girls might get mad at this one, but I understand somewhat understand it because I have to agree on the Jacob Elordi part. He is a great actor and all, but I wouldn’t say I liked his version of Elvis Presley (My favorite will forever be Austin Butler).
While I disagreed with some of these unpopular opinions, this article was really fun to write because I got to learn more about our Servite Brothers. Make sure to comment your own hot takes!
