On Wednesday, Nov. 20, Rosary had its “Dancing with the Teachers” Winter Sports Rally to celebrate and highlight its soccer, basketball, wrestling and water polo team. The dance and cheer teams also shared videos of their teams: while they are technically year-round sports, they start their competition season in the winter.
With the main focus of the rally on Rosary’s dedicated athletes, each sports team put together a video highlighting each of its players. Speaking on the process of making and editing the video for the water polo team, senior Avery Rabago shared, “It was a really fun process! I watched a lot of film footage of us during practice and put videos together of my teammates doing a wonderful job of playing the sport. After that, I just edited it and added music.”
Before each of the sports teams shared their video, a different teacher/student duo went up and performed their original choreography for the excited crowd while, behind them, 102.7 KIIS-FM’s, DJ Hollywood, played the latest songs to rile up the crowd even more! As a sort of “halftime performance” for the rally, the JV and varsity dance teams also put on an entertaining and electric show.
Moreover, as one of Rosary’s official shadow days, the Winters Sports Rally brought together present and future Royals as one big Rosary community. In charge of the rally, ASB led several other games such as “Dress to Impress,” in which different big and little sister pairs dressed each other with toilet paper, and tug-of-war! Sharing her favorite part of the rally, Bella Vecchione‘s shadow, eighth grader Kaitlin Duarte, expressed, “The winter sports rally was really fun. I thought the teachers dancing with the students was especially funny! Overall, I thought Rosary’s faculty was very entertaining and had a lot of fun doing the cheers with the different classes.”
Finally, true to the rally’s “Dancing with the Stars” theme, senior Amelia Perez and religion teacher Mrs. Vasquez were announced the winning duo while the sophomores took the win for the most spirit. The fun continued even throughout lunch when DJ Hollywood brought out special guests, Sawyer Sharbino and Jules Walcott, to perform their original songs for us Royals. That said, the Winter Sports Rally was definitely one to remember.
