From taking multiple honors and AP classes to participating in various extracurricular activities, Rosary girls are some of the most versatile people I’ve ever met! Extending beyond the usual extracurriculars like sports and Trinitas, however, Rosary has its fair share of Royal entrepreneurs, too.
Starting with a fellow Depop seller, I asked senior Kate Piper about what selling on Depop has taught her about saving and managing money: “I would say that having a Depop shop helps me make money on the side during the school year for fun things while my summer job is for saving!” For context, Depop is an online shopping app where people can buy and/or sell second-hand items.
Like Kate, I’ve also been selling my unwanted clothes on Depop since sophomore year. Responsible for listing items; setting and bartering prices; and shipping parcels out in time, managing my own Depop shop has given me a feel of what running a small online business might be like.
Moving on, when I asked junior Delilah Moos about how her nail business came about, she shared, “I first started doing nails over the past summer on myself. I used all of the amazon gift cards that I had collected over the years to buy the basics and started practicing, then I started to do my friends for free. When I got better, I began charging $30-$45 per set, which many people seem very happy with! I love doing nails, and I am so glad that I got into it. I can make some cash without having a real job and without it interfering with school.”
Finally, when I asked the youngest of my interviewees, sophomore Bianca Casella, how she runs her small business, she responded like a true, busy Royal: “I only do business in the summer because I’m way too busy during the school year.”
As we heard from these up-and-coming Royal entrepreneurs, running a small business is not only a great and easy way to make some quick bucks; it also looks great on college applications. Thus, with little to no negatives, take this article as a sign to start profiting off your favorite hobby!
