With winter quickly approaching, winter sports such as, water polo, basketball, wrestling, and soccer are coming back in season, too! That said, keep reading to take a peek into what our winter athletes have in store for their 2024-2025 athletic season.
Soccer
With over 100 Rosary wins under his belt, Head Coach Sean Melendez will surely be pushing Royals to their full potential with his neverending support, motivation, and wisdom!
Commenting on what she looks forward to in this upcoming season, Diana Penaloza ’26 shared: “Soccer season is such a fun time that I enjoy with my friends. I think it’s a great way to spend time with others while exercising.”
Addison Hansen ’26, who has been on the team for three years and recently announced her commitment to play Division 1 soccer at the University of Montana, also commented, saying, “Soccer is my favorite time of the year, so I am pumped! I can feel the energy and excitement from the girls already, just from the first week of practice. I can’t wait to see what this season brings for us.”

Basketball
Royals are growing more and more excited because, starting in two weeks, Rosary’s basketball team is going to begin their season!
The team is coached by Coach Aragon, Coach Schmitt, Coach Rodriguez and Coach Yoon this year. Ready to continue the legacy of Rosary’s incredible basketball team, these great coaches have been working hard to preparing their players for the upcoming season.
Jackie Liao ’27 comments on the fast-approaching season: “We’ve officially started regular practice, and with the season starting in two weeks I’m really excited for how it’s going to go! We play some tough teams this year, but I think we can pull through.”
Every player has been practicing tirelessly for this upcoming season, and everybody is determined to bring their best to the court. Make sure to come out and support these girls during their first game of the season.
Water polo
The Rosary Water polo team is one of the most decorated sports in the entire school! They have won many league championships and have been CIF finalists and champions many times, including last year.
Coached by Coach Hermosillo, Coach Martinez and Coach Tijerina, the athletes recieve a lot of support and guidance so that they can compete to their best abilities. Thus, with their eyes set on victory, the Royals will take on Troy High School for their first game.
On her preseason experience, sophomore Destiny Perez commented, “Preseason water polo was a fantastic experience, and it really helped me grow as a player. The team bonding was incredible; we really came together and built a strong connection. We all got closer as friends and team I’m excited for the high school season and can’t wait to see what we can achieve together this year!”

Wrestling
One of Rosary Sports’ newest additions is being instructed by Coach Nadia Escamilla. Although having a small team of three, Coach Nadia is sure to use her knowledge and experience to push her athletes to do their very best; be sure to show them support during their season!
