Next week, from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, our school will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week–a week that educates our student body about the dangers of drugs. It’s an important week that serves as a reminder of the seriousness that accompanies drug use.
Telling us why Red Ribbon Week is such a crucial week for our school, Mrs. Huerta ‘94 shares, “Red Ribbon Week is set aside to remind students they can find joy in other things and activities other than drugs. That is part of the reason we have the themed dress up days. It also shows students standing together with their peers against drugs. So often teens are peer pressured into doing the wrong thing, but you can also be pressured into do the right thing and have fun without drugs.”
Increasingly, drug use has become more discreet and easier to fall prey to. That’s why our PAL program here at Rosary made posters to help inform us students about the negative and detrimental impacts of drugs.
On why making these drug awareness posters was important, PAL member Elaina Borbon ‘25 told me, “It’s important that we made these drug awareness posters so we could help inform our classmates about the risks and consequences of heavy drug use. We really want everyone to be aware that there are dangers our classmates might encounter in the world. While I was doing my posters, I myself learned new helpful information about the negative effects it has on users.”
Next week, there will be a different theme each day pertaining to a different slogan against drug use, so keep a lookout for an email from Ms. LaBonte ’09 to see what those themes are!
Remember Royals: stay educated about what can harm you, and say NO to drugs!
