Thursday, October 24, Rosary Academy will be hosting an American Red Cross blood drive located in the Assembly Hall. Appointments to get blood drawn are available from 7:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Information flyers are posted in the windows of the science department as well as all the bathrooms and different areas throughout the school.
There are some requirements that anyone considering donation will have to fulfill before participating in this blood drive. Donors must be 16 and older to participate in this blood drive and eligible. If fit to these requirements, to schedule an appointment, donors must go to RedCrossBlood.org. Once there, enter the Sponsor Code: Rosary.
After that, donors should pick up a blood drive permission slip, which can be found in room three. Along with the permission slip, a signed parental consent form must be provided. When going to get blood drawn, students are instructed to bring their school ID.
Though giving blood may sound scary, Rosary highly encourages students to have the bravery it takes and donate a pint of blood to save many lives, especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. If students are still considering it and or nervous, they should encourage a parent, family member, friend, or acquaintance to donate blood. Doing this together can make it less scary for everyone donating for the greater good.
But why should you donate? Well, here are some of the benefits of giving your blood to those in need:
Science teacher, Mr. Parmar, states “You get to save up to three lives and get a free t-shirt and even more than that, you get the satisfaction of knowing you are doing the greater good, saving a life.”
Rosary nurse, Melissa Doyle ’02, adds to that by saying, “Donating blood is very important because donating is very useful and helpful to those who need it. Donating is the easiest way we can help those in need if they have to have transfusions or have an accident. People also have different blood types and sometimes rare ones. To have those rare blood types when the hospital needs them is very useful.”
And do not forget the free t-shirt donors receive after donating. Help save a life, Royals!
