Rosary hosted a small college fair for Jesuit schools on Thursday, October 17. Held in the quad from 2:05 p.m. to 2:45 p.m, representatives from different Jesuit colleges were there to interact with students.
Some colleges that were present included, College of the Holy Cross, Creighton University, Fairfield University, Gonzaga University, Loyola Marymount University, Loyola University Chicago, Loyola University Maryland and Loyola University New Orleans. Each school had a table with brochures, stats and handouts advertising their school. Marquette University, Regis University, Saint Louis University, Santa Clara University, Seattle University, the University of Scranton, University of San Francisco and Xavier University were also there to share information about their schools.
What is a Jesuit college, you ask? Well, that’s a great question! A Jesuit college is a private school that is associated with the Jesuits. The Jesuit order, also known as the Society of Jesus, is an order within the Catholic Church that was founded by Ignatius of Loyola.
When asked why it was helpful for students to visit this college fair, academic and college counselor Mrs. Crowley shared, “Attending the JET Mini Fair is a great way to explore Jesuit colleges and universities all in one location, making it easier to compare options. It also provides a unique opportunity to speak directly with admissions representatives (who are often the ones who read your applications) and gather firsthand information about programs, campus life and financial aid. A Jesuit education could be a perfect match for our Rosary students, as it emphasizes strong academics alongside values like ethics and social justice, fostering critical thinking and personal growth to prepare students to be compassionate leaders who can make a positive impact on society, much like the experiences offered here at Rosary.” So true! This was a great opportunity for students to discover schools that they might be interested in attending.
Junior Emma Muse attended the fair and said, “I thought the college fair was really informative, and I learned a lot about those universities. I’m super excited for the one at Servite on Tuesday too.” The fair did have a lot of good information.
Students can also find information about these schools on their websites. This fair was a great opportunity for Rosary students to get information about colleges and prepare for the schools that they might want to apply to. By attending, students were able to gain a better understanding of whether or not a Jesuit education is for them.
That being said, don’t worry if you missed this fair because there is an upcoming college night on Tuesday, October 22 at Servite High School from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This upcoming fair is open to sophomores, juniors, seniors and their parents; make sure to check your email for more information!
