Hey Royals! This month is October and while we get excited about Halloween and the fall season, this month also stands for something else. October is an important month for many women around the world.
October is the month where we get to raise awareness about woman who suffer with breast cancer. Breast cancer is a common type of cancer mostly found in women from the ages of 30-60. Many women all around the world lose their lives to this terrible disease. It typically starts as a growth of cells found in the breast tissue. This cell growth then turns into a tumor which then turns the tumor cancerous. If not treated, this may cause cancer in other parts of the body such as the brain, bones, liver, blood and lungs. Treatment is achievable most times. Treatment may include: medication, surgery, hormone therapy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
To help these women and their families dealing with these trials, here are some ways to support them.
- Donate what you can to a breast cancer organizations. This is a very simple way to show your support and love, even if it is just a few dollars.
- Volunteer for a breast cancer organization. Volunteering can be an amazing opportunity to get out of the house and show up for the people who need it the most. Showing up in person and letting people see your face can make them feel comforted to know you are there to support them.
- Join the Pink Journey Club. Joining the Pink Journey Club here at Rosary Academy is a wonderful way to expand your knowledge on breast cancer and meet new people who might have stories. It is another wonderful way to start somewhere if you do not know where to start. If someone in your family is struggling with breast cancer and you feel the effect, this is a great way to make connections with people who are going through the same thing.
- While we bring awareness to breast cancer, constantly seeing pink or even hearing the words breast cancer, October can be a very difficult month for many women with a constant reminder of their hardships. If you know anyone with breast cancer, let them know you are there if they need and support them through their emotions.
If you didn’t understand why October is not only for Halloween but is also for Breast Cancer Awareness too, I hope this article gave you a little more insight. I hope to see you out there supporting your other sisters that have breast cancer.
