As a dedicated pet owner, there is nothing I like better than talking about my four-legged best friend. Thus, as a means of shedding some light, I decided to ask members of faculty and some of my Rosary sisters about their very own Royal pets.
Q: If your pet was a celebrity, who would it be?
After much thought, Ms. Brinegar ’16 decided, “If my dog Duke was a celebrity, he would be Michael Cera.”
Elaina Borbon ’25 confidently responded to my question: “If my cat, Charlie, were a celebrity he would be Ryan Reynolds because he is so sassy and always brings me joy.”
Then, in regards to her dachshund, Mrs. D’Alba stated that “The celebrity most like Daisy May is Sleeping Beauty.”
Q: What’s your favorite thing about your pet?
Mrs. D’Alba’s favorite thing about her Daisy May is that “She does not talk back. She is always happy to see me, and doesn’t care if we stay home and do nothing. After eating, doing nothing is her favorite thing to do.”
Similarly, Celine Asido ’25 shared, “My favorite thing about Coco is definitely her energy: she knows when to be hype and excited, but she also knows how to tone it down and chill. I also love how affectionate she is: she loves cuddling with people and giving them kisses!” Having met Coco, I can definitely attest to this!
Lastly, Ms. Brinegar ’16 asserted, “My favorite thing about Duke is that he loves to cuddle. He often jumps up on the couch next to me to watch TV.”
Q: (For students) Are you planning on having pets in the future? If so, what species and breed?
Senior Celine Asido said, “I hope in the future when I live by myself or have a family that I’ll have a husky, German shepherd or a chihuahua (but of course I’m biased)!”
Then, speaking upon the therapy a pet could provide, senior Elaina Borbon shared, “I am definitely planning on having pets in the future because they are always good companions when you need someone to lean on. Specifically, I would get a golden retriever because they always look so happy and playful.” Like Elaina, one of my dream pets is also a golden retriever.
Q: (For teachers) Did you grow up with pets? If so, did that influence your decision to have one now?
Religion teacher Mrs. D’Alba disclosed, “Yes, my first pet was a stray cat my mom named Jezebel. My next pet was a rescue doxie named Susie Baby. Our newest dogs are also doxies, Oscar and Daisy. Daisy is my blind guardian who barks at everything, especially invisible strangers.”
Ms. Brinegar also grew up with a pet: “I did grow up having another dog; her name was Peppermint Patty. Growing up with a dog definitely influenced me to get another dog. I missed having a little buddy around the house.”
Q: Lastly, is your pet anything like you? In what ways?
Celine Asido ’25: “Coco and I are somewhat similar: we both love napping, eating, and meeting new people! Coco is a very social dog when it comes to people and loves making new friends!”
Mrs. D’Alba: “Ha, not in positive ways. Daisy and I are alike in many ways. We both like eating. We like staying home and away from people. We like cuddling on the couch under a blanket and watching Britbox.” If you ask me, Mrs. D’Alba and Daisy May were made for each other!
Elaina Borbon ’25: “I think my pets do have things in common with me. For example, we all love to eat and we are curious. They all like to explore the outside and I like to venture out too.”
Ms. Brinegar ’16: “My dog is like me in a few ways: he is shy with new people, he loves fuzzy blankets, and he gets hangry if he doesn’t have his breakfast.”
If it were up to me, I would write about different Royal pets every week because they are just so darn cute and loveable!
