During the month of October, Rosary’s seniors have the opportunity to apply for the Lauri Chiaretta Scholarship. The scholarship recipient will receive their accolades at the Mass of Gratefulness on November 19.
Seniors who have maintained a C average can apply for the scholarship. It is due to Rosary’s Alumna Relations Manager, Mrs. Pontius ‘03, in the main office by Monday, October 14. The application can be found on the Royal Review email and is linked here: 920e00e1-c474-4eb1-b52e-2512e6ce1181.pdf (constantcontact.com)
The scholarship honors Lauri Chiaretta ‘81, a courageous Royal graduate who died in 1985 trying to save her friend during a boating accident. Her family created this scholarship to honor her legacy; according to Lauri’s sister Judi Chiaretta-Manalisay ’79, Lauri spent her time at Rosary taking “advantage of all that Rosary had to offer and was involved in many extracurricular activities that enhanced her short life, including campus ministry programs. She made many friends and brought a joyful presence to everything she was involved in.”
She adds that, “The scholarship in her name was established by our family not just to preserve her legacy but more importantly to provide a small financial opportunity to enhance another student’s experience at Rosary. Our family, truly values the experience we had at Rosary over 40 years ago! As an alum, class of ’79, I attribute many of the positive achievements in my life to my Catholic education at Rosary.”
Senior Kate Piper says that she will be applying for the scholarship because “It’s a great way to remember a fellow Royal and earn some money toward my tuition.” Seniors, don’t forget the application is due on October 14, and you will need a counselor’s signature.
