This year, Rosary has introduced many new teachers onto campus. For those who may not know her, Ms. Medina joined the Rosary English department this year and is a great addition to our school. Ms. Medina teaches freshmen and juniors this school year and is excited for what the future holds. She cannot wait to be a part of all the traditions and learn about all the activities we host. I was able to talk to her and learn more about her, so keep reading to get to know Ms. Medina!
Q: What inspired you to become a teacher?
A: I always felt that I need something that gives purpose and makes me feel like what I am doing matters. I also wanted to stay connected with my faith, so I looked for careers that would give me a purposeful feeling, but nothing gave me that feeling other than teaching.
Q: What made you pursue teaching English?
A: I have had a lot of really good English teachers throughout my life who have inspired me to take a passion in English. In my AP Literature class, my teacher held really good discussions which got me excited. It also felt like a class where its not just a skill, but also a desire for reading.
Q: What is your favorite part of English?
A: Whenever I am reading something and a sentence sticks out to me. I can immediately tell it holds so much significance and has symbolism attached to it.
Q: How did you find yourself at Rosary?
A: Last year I started thinking if I would be applying for a doctorate at Cal State Fullerton, and once I was accepted, it was the last push I needed to move. Once I moved from Los Angeles, I began looking for teaching opportunities. It felt too good to be true when I found Rosay because it is so close to Cal State Fullerton. I really enjoyed my interview and found that everyone was really genuine, and I realized this would be the perfect place for me.
Q: What is the best book-movie adaptation?
A: The first one that comes to mind is “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.”
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: In the little free time I have, I love to stay active and take a hike, schedule a run, or work out. I am also a middle child and I have two sisters who I love to hang out with.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: I am not a picky eater and love to try new foods when I can. My favorite type of food would have to be Mexican food, but I have a variety of dishes I choose from.
Q: What are you most excited about this year as a new teacher here at Rosary?
A: I have heard a lot about Red and Gold, so I am definitely looking forward to seeing the performance and all the preparation before. I also am looking forward to seeing Rosary Day and celebrating with everybody.
Q: What is your go-to Starbucks order?
A: I am definitely a Starbucks girl and my perfect drink would be a brown sugar shaken espresso.
Q: Who is your favorite music artist?
A: I have so many artist I love, but right now I really enjoy Tori Kelly. I also just went to see her perform and she was an amazing singer, I felt so lucky to hear her performing live.
We are so happy to have Ms. Medina with us on campus this year. Royals, make sure to give Ms. Medina a big welcome and share all of our Rosary traditions with her!
