With October just around the corner, we can’t help but think about one of Rosary’s most important traditions: Rosary Day. Dr. Pautsch shared her view on Rosary Day: “Rosary Day is a very special day for Rosary Academy. It is a day that celebrates the feast of our patroness, Our Lady of the Rosary, and honors the junior class as they receive their class ring.” This year, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is on October 7. To show our love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mother, Rosary Day will be celebrated on Friday October 4, the closest Friday to the feast day.
The beautiful event starts the day off with the gathering of our Rosary community in Mass. This Mass is hosted by the juniors as they take on the responsibility of becoming upperclasswomen. Following the Mass, the ring ceremony takes place. Each junior will receive their class ring from a Rosary alumna. The alumna who has been specially picked to present a ring takes a place on the left side of the stage. Then, the class of 2026 will wait for their names to be called up for their special moment onstage. This moment symbolizes how significant of a tradition this event is to Rosary Academy as a community of faith, service and sisterhood. Yamileth Guzman ’25 received her class ring last year and explains her favorite part of her Rosary Day as a member of the junior choir: “I love singing with my sisters, and I loved how we all supported and lifted each other up throughout the ceremony!”
Dr. Pautsch also gave her insight on the day, sharing, “One of the most meaningful parts of the day after the celebration of the Eucharist for me is watching alumnae return to Rosary to present the ring to a daughter, niece, cousin or special friend. Rosary Day ties the present and the future. It reminds us that we are a community that is bonded by a similar experience and that it is up to each young woman who graces the doors of Rosary that they must ensure the future of our school.”
After watching the ceremony for the first time last year, I agree that there is a sweet feeling in watching the alumnae come back to show their love and dedication not only to the juniors, but to Rosary Academy and the Virgin Mary.
A beloved alumna who works here at Rosary also shared her favorite memory of her class’s Rosary Day. Señora Kappe ’03 said, “I love Rosary Day! I still remember the blue and white checkered dress I wore that day! It was a special day because of the Mass and ring ceremony, but it was extra special because my dad took the day off to be there and to drive my friends and I to Disneyland! Disneyland was so much fun! I loved hanging out with my friends and visiting with the teachers, and I still have the class picture we took in front of the magic castle! Also, my mom helped me design my ring, and I still wear it when I come to work to this day!”
Another amazing alumna, who you can find in the activities office, shared her experience of Rosary Day. Ms. La Bonte ’09 mentioned, “My favorite memory from my Rosary Day was just how excited I was to get my class ring! I remember my older cousins getting their rings, and I was looking forward to getting mine as well. Excitement and stress were two emotions I remember from that day. I was excited and happy to become an upper-class woman and finally see my ring! I was stressed because the night before, I caught my finger, and it snapped my nail in half (the finger my ring was going to go on) and I didn’t want it messed up for photos, so I found a salon open late to fix it. I know my mom and dad came to support me. I think my little brother and one of my aunts may have come!”
Mrs. Jenkins, the junior class moderator and history teacher, also announced her eagerness for the juniors’ Rosary Day. She expressed, “I am very proud to be the junior class moderator. This year specifically, I am very excited for the juniors to receive their rings because they are a truly special group of girls. They have proven themselves to be a standout class that works incredibly hard and exudes both joy and exemplary school spirit!”
After talking to Savannah Minton ’26, she exclaimed her own excitement about her class’s Rosary Day coming up: “I’m looking forward to Rosary Day because I can’t wait to receive my class ring and celebrate our Lady of the Rosary. I’m also super excited to bond more with my fellow junior sisters and make more memories that we can cherish together!” As a sophomore myself, I am also looking forward to my class’s Rosary Day next year, so I can only imagine how excited the juniors are.
As a whole, the Rosary Community is very proud to support our junior class and honor our Lady of the Rosary. We hope all the juniors have a wonderful day full of memories as they celebrate their accomplishments at Rosary and as women in faith.
