For the past 7 years, Mrs. Davidson has been responsible for guiding the AP Calc BC class towards success. This year, the class consists of four amazing seniors: Grace Raskopf, Jeslynn Abobo, Marissa Perez and myself, Gabrielle Lazo.
From limits to integrals, and all that falls between, Mrs. Davidson has single-handedly turned these promising students from novices to math studs. If you don’t believe me, let their AP Calc AB Exam scores do the talking. I mean 5s across the board is no easy feat!
So while we all admire the skills of the legendary Mrs. Davidson, let’s ask her class a few questions about AP Calc BC:
Q: What is your favorite part about the class? Why?
A: Jeslynn responded, “I like this class because of its small size, which makes it more enjoyable to bond (over trials and tribulations) with my classmates over complex math.“
Q: Would you recommend this class to others? Why?
A: Marissa said, “I would recommend this class to others if they’re looking for a challenge but also want a great group of people to spend their time (and struggles) with. The atmosphere in the class is surprisingly light which helps balance the stress of the class’s difficulty.”
Q: Can you rate this class difficulty on a scale from 1-10? Why this rating?
A: Jeslynn answered, “8… It’s definitely a vigorous class on concepts, but with a smaller class size, I feel more comfortable in class to ask for clarification on topics or to start some class inside jokes.”
Q: Why did you decide to take this class?
A: Marissa replied, “I decided to take this class before I even stepped foot in high school because I have always been really fond of math and I wanted to get to the highest point I could in the math department. What made me follow through with my goal was knowing that I would be being taught by a great teacher and be classmates with my friends who would all help me through this class.”
Q: Are you more of a math person? Do you plan to pursue a STEM career?
A: Grace responded saying, “I am definitely not a math person. I am much more of an English person. I do not plan on pursuing a STEM career, but I thought that this class would be fun to take and would look good on my college apps.”
Q: How do you approach problems that you don’t understand?
A: I’ll answer this one. When I come across a problem I don’t understand, I usually skip it and come back later, which is especially helpful when on a time constraint. If worst comes to worst and I truly don’t know what to do, I’ll just give it my best guess and pray.
There you have it, folks! A deep dive into Mrs. Davidson’s fun-filled AP Calc BC class. Through whatever trials and tribulations we may come across, I wish the best for us and hope that every Royal will get the opportunity to take this class one year!
