Rosary Academy is one of the only high schools in California with a triathlon team. Over the weekend, Royals had their first triathlon race of this season, and for many, it was their first triathlon race ever. It was the Pacific Coast Triathlon race, which was held at Crystal Cove. The team has been training very hard since the summer, and now, all of their hard work has paid off.
Many of the triathlon team members have high expectations. Rosary’s triathlon team has grown very much over the past couple school years, and it continues to grow. Now, there are multiple different Royals competing in different events. Michaela Watson ’26 said, “One of the things I love about triathlon is that it is such a welcoming community, and everyone wants to see you succeed.”
The Rosary triathletes competed in different events, and some even placed. They all showed a lot of skill in swimming, running, biking or a combination of the three. Two girls competed in the sprint triathlon, two girls competed in the sprint duathlon and one Royal competed in the aqua bike.
Gigi Simmons ’26 placed first in the sprint triathlon, and Tyler Jackson ’25 placed second. Christina Vaughan ’26 placed first, and Ashley Bernath ’25 placed second in the sprint duathlon (run, bike, run). Alyssa McCreary ’25 placed third out of all the women in the sprint aqua bike (swim, bike). She was also the youngest female competing. The competition was tough, but the girls were able to remain focused and finish strong. They all pushed themselves to perform at their absolute best.
The Royals participating were able to create great memories with this race. Gigi Simmons shared, “I enjoy meeting new people at the competition and watching everyone compete.” Overall, the Royals performed great this past weekend and brought home some great accomplishments. Their next race is the LA Tri at Bonelli Park. Make sure to attend and support our Royal sisters!
