This summer, Royals were back on campus training for their upcoming seasons. This fall, Rosary has teams competing in cross country, flag football, golf, tennis, and volleyball. Games began as soon as school started, and each of their seasons were on their way.
Next week the school will celebrate all the fall sports during the fall sports rally. The fall sports rally will highlight each fall sports program and show all the athletes that participate. I took a look into how the flag football, golf, and volleyball teams started preparing for their seasons during the summer.
Bella Vallejo ‘26 is a part of the Varsity flag football team and discussed what she did with her team this summer. Flag football started practicing early this year, only a few weeks after summer began. They grew their program, so now they have a full JV and Varsity team practicing and playing against other teams. They started the season off strong: their current record is 3-1. Bella says she is most excited for “the team lunches and getting to know more people.”
The Rosary golf team is beginning the start of their season–but they have been preparing for a while. Junior Emma Ramirez began her own training in early July to prepare for the season ahead. She joined her team when they met later in July, and continued through the rest of summer. The golf team practiced two to three days a week and was able to grow their program to have two full teams. Emma is excited to be a co-captain on Varsity for her junior year and is “most looking forward to bonds with her new teammates.” Their season is off to a great start; they won their first match against Foothill High School.
Rosary’s volleyball team has had an exciting start to their season with multiple tournaments, including their trip to Hawaii during the first week of school where they took third place. The volleyball program has been practicing since mid-July and was able to attend a USC camp as well as a Cal Poly Pomona tournament earlier in summer.
Aurora Ortuno ‘26 tells me her “favorite part of summer training was getting back on the court and bonding with new friends.” Since getting back on the court, she has been able to see her closest friends and have fun at team bonding.
During the Hawaii trip, Aurora says that outside of the court they went snorkeling, did a sunrise swim at the beach, went shopping, and went out to a few bougie restaurants. The team enjoyed meeting the other programs they played against and made a few friends.
