After four years at the Academy, this year’s Class of 2024 graduates in just a few short days. As a member of this class, I have come to cherish every second I have spent with my sisters. To close out the year, here’s a recap of some of the most memorable (and slightly alarming) moments from the Class of 2024’s senior year.
Starting off strong is the surprise visit we got in September on a Wellness Wednesday. What started as a DJ dance party ended as a concert from a rising boy band, Full Circle, a group of six boys, made their way to Rosary for a quick stop. There was dancing, singing, oh, and a promposal. Senior Finley Hawkins participated in the fun and shared, “I think Full Circle coming was the craziest day of my life. I wouldn’t have ever expected a boy band to show up to rosary in the quad but I guess I was wrong. And of course there was Stefan Benz, my almost prom date. That was definitely an interesting plot twist in my life that I wasn’t expecting.”
Next up, a more niche memory: Rosary’s “shelter in place” in February when students had to break out the buckets. After about thirty minutes of being in the classrooms, many seniors in Ms. D’Alba’s period five religion class started to have to use the bathroom. Not to worry because each classroom is prepared for any situation. This goes to show Rosary Academy ensures their students safety and really is prepared for everything that comes their way. Katie Meneses ‘24 was someone who had to utilize the nifty set up: “It had been like 30 minutes and I just couldn’t hold it any longer.” Desperate times call for desperate measures.
This year’s father daughter dance did not disappoint. And what made it even better? Senior Valeria Avila’s insane dance competition performance. After many rounds of the senior competition, there were two pairs left and it all came down to this moment. Valeria and her dad CARRIED their final performance together. With a combination of props, crazy moves, and an entire crowd cheering them on, they were unstoppable. Valeria shares how she felt after her win: “I felt sore, grateful, and truly happy to see my dad smile so much and have a great bonding story to tell. My dad and I often compete but there are very few times we are on the same team and are able to share the win, so this was a nice change.”
This year’s Red and Gold was one for the books and both team’s incredible shows made for an amazing weekend. But, what happens on stage doesn’t always reflect what goes on off stage. Red team Producer, Ava Fishman ‘24, shares her unique experience, “I guess I was going a little too hard at finale because when I got off stage I realized I couldn’t walk on my foot. It was also entirely purple.”
Finally, at the seniors’ last prom, they got to enjoy a night of dancing and music with the BEST DJ. Not sure where this DJ spawned from because he certainly was not at any of the other dances, but he was insane. It felt like we were at a rave night club (not that us Royals would know what this is) with our entire senior class in attendance. Senior Sarah Quiros shares her thoughts, “The DJ was fire. The mix of house music and rap was perfect.” Hands down the best dance of the year.
It’s safe to say the best memories were made this year. All while doing so, a group of 109 girls grew closer, laughed together, and leaned on each other. Seniors, it’s been real. It was the best last year making memories to last a lifetime. I love you all.
