As my senior year comes to a close, I have reflected on the things I wish I would have done or participated in throughout my last four years. The opportunities to join clubs or get involved in Rosary are vast; this list represents all the fun choices I could have made, but I couldn’t because of sports/scheduling, etc.
1. I wish I would have taken Ceramics class:
I have only taken one art class, Photography 1, and that was in my freshman year. I wish I would have taken more art electives, specifically ceramics. The class seems so fun and you get to take home a little souvenir once and a while. Juliana Savellano ‘24 has taken ceramics for 2 years, and she describes, “I loved being in this class. I made a lot of friends, and it was fun to learn something I had never gotten to try before.”
2. I wish I would have played more sports:
Even though I already play two sports here at Rosary, I wish I would have tried something new for at least one season. When flag football became a sport at Rosary, it really interested me and I wish I would have taken the opportunity to try it out for a little bit. I also wish I would have tried soccer. With all the running I have done my entire life, playing soccer seems so fun to me. Briana Reyes ‘24 has been a soccer player all four years and says, “Rosary Soccer was by far my favorite experience at school. Being a part of the team for the last four years was the highlight of my high school experience. Our dance runway before every game are memories I will always cherish!”
3. I wish I would have sang in the school choir or auditioned for a play:
I put these two wishes together because they both involve performing on stage, which is something I never do other than for Red and Gold. I love singing, even though I am not good at it, so I would have really enjoyed being in the choir. I don’t mind standing in front of people, and most of the time the songs they sing are jams. I am also very outgoing, so performing on stage for a play wouldn’t be that nerve racking for me. Both groups also look like they are having the best time, and I deeply regret not trying to be part of it.
4. I wish I would have spent more time in the LEC:
Every time I go into the LEC, I realize how nice of a place it is to study. It’s peaceful, has a vast amount of books ready to check out, and has a printer available. I think it would have been a great place to spend more time when I needed to study or take a break from school. I also wish I would have checked out a book at the library because they have a lot of books that I would have enjoyed reading.
5. I wish I would have tried a different category for Red and Gold:
All four years at Rosary I have done dance for Red and Gold. And while I love dancing and being part of this category, I wish I would have tried something new. I think I would have enjoyed being part of a drama or drill. Grace Kaiser ‘24 talks about her drama experience: “I had a lot of fun and got to know a lot of upperclassmen through the scene partnership we had to have. I did a different category each year, and I really enjoyed all the memories that it gave me.” All categories on Red and Gold are fun in their own way, and I wish I would have given a different one a try.
6. I wish I would have taken things less seriously and less for granted:
As my final wish for what I would have done in the last four years, I wish that sometimes I took things less seriously and less for granted. I wish I would have enjoyed the moment a little more, and tried to be more present in each experience. I have made so many memories at Rosary and I cherish each one. I wish I would have realized how important they were while they were happening.
I thank Rosary for all the people and wonderful experiences it has given me. I couldn’t have asked for a better high school experience. Peace out.
