On Wednesday, April 24, family, friends, coaches, and teammates gathered at Servite High School to celebrate Rosary and Servite track and field seniors. Hours upon on hours of planning were put into this event to make it memorable, and on behalf of both track teams, thank you to everyone who helped out!
We started the night with a prayer by sophomore Caleigh Steward followed by delicious barbeque made by 2023 track alumna Colleen Schmitt‘s dad who has catered many of our track team events. The real celebration began with senior speeches where Rosary seniors picked girls to write a speech about the past season and their accomplishments. Senior athletes were honored with a walk by their families, a flower bouquet for their moms, a ribbon lei, and a flower crown for the Royals.
The Rosary seniors are Paige Sorensen, Milan Smith, Elena Saenz, Lainey Goldstein, Sol Lee, Gabby Thompson, Juliana Savellano, Keira Lambert, Kit Hayward, Madison Lising, Sara Garcia, and Melanie Kamel.
The Servite seniors are Alex Brambila, Nick Cwiertny, Vinny Casella, Josh Siebert, Miguel Gonzales, James Campbell, and Jaden Welch.
Senior Alex Brambila commented, “Senior night was great! Gathering together with my teammates and our families was beautiful. Although this is pretty much my last goodbye to my teammates, having this time with them really made me enjoy and be grateful for the time I had with them.” Another senior, Josh Siebert, mentioned, “I just thought it was a fun night with lots of memories and good food.”
Elena shares, “I remember the seniors when I was a sophomore, and they were great role models for us. Now that I am a senior, I want to be a role model for the underclassmen on the team.” Milan adds, “As a sophomore, my senior night seemed so far away and it’s crazy to think 3 years flew by and now I am a senior!”
Elena, Milan, Lainey, and I started the tradition of senior night for the girls’ track team during our sophomore year. We made posters and baskets and wrote touching speeches for each girl. This year, sophomores Caleigh Steward and Justine Wilson, went above and beyond to show how much we mean to them by making us adorable posters and baskets.
Both teams have made major accomplishments this season and will race in their last league meet tomorrow at JSerra. But the season is not over yet! Qualifying athletes will compete in CIF to gain recognition and views from across the country. Congratulations seniors and good luck in the weeks ahead!
