Last week, Royals welcomed back Clash of the Classes with a twist. It was a week-long event that involved different activities during lunch each day. Classes earned points by winning competitions and participating throughout the week.
Students kicked off the week on Monday with spirit dress and a game of Capture the Flag. The intense competition ended with the juniors winning and earning points for their class. Noelle Seibert ‘25 shared, “I think we won because of our aggressive take on this challenge. Overall, it was really fun.”
The following day was a “Jeopardy” trivia and song lyric quiz. This competition came down to a tie between the sophomores and the juniors. The sophomores took the win for this event with a tie-breaking question. Emily Diep ‘26 explained, “I knew we were going to win. I just had a gut feeling, and I’m usually never wrong.”
On Wednesday, Royals paired up with their big and little sisters for some mini games. First was an egg-on-a-spoon relay race with the sophomores and seniors against the freshmen and juniors. A tug-of-war competition followed, and the juniors won, showing who’s the strongest on campus. Freshman Rowan O’Connell said, “Even though my class didn’t win this one, it was fun to watch our big sisters beat the sophomores.”
To ease the tension among the classes, Thursday was a fun karaoke day. Everyone gathered in the Karcher Center to enjoy solo and group performances. Junior Abigail Zabala expressed, “My favorite performance was Valeria Avila ‘24. She really left it all on the stage.”
The best way to wrap up the fun week was with bubble soccer. Each grade took turns playing each other in a exciting match. The final game was between the juniors and the sophomores. Ava Barretto ‘25 scored the game winning goal for the juniors. Senior Claire Heidelman said, “I wanted to win, but I had a blast watching everyone roll around on the lawn.”
The final set of points came from a weeklong rock, paper, scissors competition. Students wore beaded necklaces to show they were participating, and anyone who had a necklace could challenge another person in a game of rock, paper, scissors. The winner took any necklaces the other person had, and whomever collected the most necklaces by Friday won 100 points for their team. Valeria Avila won the competition for the seniors.
After tallying up all the points from the week, it was announced that the winner of Clash of the Classes 2024 was the junior class. Congratulations to the juniors for showing their great school spirit. All four grades had a wonderful time participating and can’t wait to continue this tradition next year!
