In my time of 16 years on earth, I have made a lot of impulsive decisions with products. There have been many times where I have bought things knowing they probably will not be good or was influenced by social media to buy the newest, hottest trend. Here are some products I and other Royals, bought and reviewed so you do not have to make the same mistake.
In 2022, I bought a $55 Gucci lipstick. I was influenced by Harry Styles and all the Gucci he had and was constantly wearing. So I decided I needed some Gucci product in my life and came across the Gucci Rouge lipstick. Let me warn you; it may say Gucci on it, but my six dollar L’Oréal lipstick from Target is doing the same, if not a better job.
If you have seen any of the infamous “Get Ready With Me” TikToks, you have probably seen the Benefit’s Benetint lip and cheek stain. I thought this would be a great two-in-one product but when you use it, it barely has any color on your cheeks or lips, even if you apply a lot of product.
Another famous “Get Ready With Me” product is the Glow Recipe Watermelon Dew Drops. I bought the dew drops thinking it would make my skin glow. But after using them for a while, I could not see a difference in what they were doing for my skin.
As much as I love Lululemon, one product that I would not repurchase is the Asymmetrical Yoga Bra. I would constantly be seeing all my favorite dance influencers and Pilates girls wear this bra. Therefore, I needed it. After buying two, I realized they do not support you and fall off very easily. They may look super cute, but very impractical.
If you have seen the Sephora favorites bundles, they look amazing. In reality, after getting one after Christmas, $60 is not worth it for a couple mini-size products. I would recommend just buying a few good, full-size products.
Charlotte Ritter ‘26 bought the famous Urban Outfitter top that everyone of your favorite influencers is wearing. She said, “ It is super over hyped. I don’t understand why we all had to have this 34 dollar top and it went out of style so fast. Now the top is just sitting at the bottom of my closet.”
Here is what sophomore Elizabeth Mejia had to say on something she regretted buying: “ The Dyson Airwrap was a big waste of money. I had it for one week and I thought it was great but then I realized it wasn’t even curling my hair very well and it would dry my hair as good as any blow dryer.”
Savanna Mostero ’26 said “A product TikTok made me buy was the L’Oréal Gold Telescopes Mascara. It made my lashes look like strings and it was so watery. Once the mascara dried it made my lashes fall out.”
Hope you have had a great time being de-influenced by products that just do not need to be bought.
