Now that the Lenten Season is coming to an end, it is time to prepare our hearts for the death and Resurrection of Jesus. The days before Easter are some of the most important days in the Catholic Church because they allow the community to experience the Passion of Christ.
Days such as Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday allow one to strengthen their faith, especially through activities such as Good Friday Masses and Stations of the Cross. We asked Royals some of the traditions they participate in to prepare themselves for the Easter season.
Senior Lianna Enright shares the cool traditions she does to prepare for Easter Sunday: “On the Saturday before Easter, I go with my family to the Easter Vigil Mass to celebrate Easter. Even though the Mass is really long (it’s like 3 hours), I like going because I think it’s cool to watch the RCIA people receive their Sacraments. On Easter Sunday, instead of going to Mass, my family goes out to get breakfast since we went to Mass Saturday night.” Going to midnight Mass is a great way to participate and prepare one’s heart for the Resurrection of Jesus.
In our own families we both participate in some pre- Easter activates. Emma says, “Every Easter, my family and I go to sunrise Mass at my parish. Even though it’s super tiring having to wake up so early in the morning, the Mass is always extra special. At the end, there is a release of doves, and they fly around in an organized manner and it’s really cool.”
In my own family, my mom and I usually go to adoration on Holy Thursday and Good Friday Mass and stations of the cross. My mom gets really into the season, so I do too. We usually refrain from listening to non-classical music on Good Friday just to try and show the most respect for the day.
Overall, we are excited to see how the Royals are preparing for Jesus’ Resurrection. Remember to keep up your Lenten promise, only a few more weeks. Happy Easter!
