I’m sure we all have had our fair share of awkward and embarrassing moments throughout high school, the seniors having the most. I can attest that I have definitely been in some awkward and uncomfy situations. So, I thought it’d be funny to look at some of the seniors’ cringe-worthy stories.
To start it all off, Kit Hayward ‘24 explains some of her major fashion mistakes: “Freshman year, I’d go to school every day with my polo shirt tucked in, my skirts down to my knees, and no jacket other than a zip up because I was CONVINCED that admin would pull up my zip up and check my shirt to see if I was ‘in dress code.’” Kit is thankful that she has learned since then.
Looking back, this is one of my most humbling memories. My friends and I thought it was a good idea to call ourselves “The Mamas.” For about two years, we continued to refer to ourselves as “The Mamas.” Eventually, we realized we were not as cool as we thought and changed our group chat name in hopes of forgetting about “The Mamas” forever. Thank God that name is gone; I never want to think about it again. We are deeply sorry to anyone who had to listen to us call ourselves “The Mamas.”
Ava Bernard ‘24 still remembers an embarrassing moment from yearbook class: “I was supposed to be paying attention, and I had my headphones on and screamed for McKinley Fregoso across the room. It was silent. Everyone turned around. I wanted to die.” I am not in yearbook, but I would’ve loved to see the look on Ava’s face when she realized what had just happened.
Senior Paloma Borsari will never forget her awkward Homecoming proposal. She tells us, “I was napping when Nicholas Nodarse came to ask me to Homecoming. My dad answered the door, told him to wait, and then ran in to wake me up. Nicholas was probably really weirded out when my dad had to stall while I quickly did my hair upstairs. After a few minutes, I came outside to get asked and take pictures IN MY LADYBUG SOCKS.” Yikes, there goes any hope of cute Hoco proposal pictures.
Lainey Goldstein ‘24 recalls one of her most embarrassing stories: “It was Rosary Day sophomore year, and I was in line for Indiana Jones with my friends. I was sitting on the railing when I lost my balance and fell backward into a bush. I was completely upside down and could not get up. Some 8-year-old boy got in my face and started yelling “Yeet” repeatedly until I finally got out of the bush and back on my feet.” Luckily, Lainey was not hurt, and instead of leaving this encounter with bruises and blood, she just left with shame.
Senior Briana Reyes shared one time when she accidentally brought two different shoes to school. “I left the house in a rush, so I was going to put my shoes on in the car. When I was tying my shoes I realized that they were not the same: one was platform and one was regular. The whole day I walked around lopsided, hoping that no one would realize.” Now Briana double-checks her shoes before leaving the house to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
I hope this article makes you realize that EVERYONE has had some experiences they wish never happened, but they make for fun storytelling and humble us when we start to get too cocky.
