Dear Gold Skaters,
Now that I’ve had about a week to recover from Red and Gold, I’d like to take a moment to thank you all for one of the most exhausting and stressful yet incredibly amazing and fulfilling experiences of my high school years.
Back in December of last year, I had no idea that I would get to meet so many wonderful and talented individuals. I never would have expected to create such a tight-knit community of girls who would become some of my biggest supporters and closest friends.
To the freshmen,
Thank you for giving your all in your first Red and Gold! I hope it was everything you anticipated and more. I am so glad that you could experience the joys of working hard and seeing it pay off. I hope that Ava and I, along with all of your captains, made your first Red and Gold experience a great one. And on the off chance that it wasn’t all that you wanted, and the experience didn’t live up to the hype, I hope you learn to embrace it; each individual’s experience is different!
To the sophomores,
I hope this Red and Gold was your best yet! Thank you for all of your hard work over these past six weeks. If you feel like Red and Gold still isn’t for you, or you feel you haven’t found your groove yet, I suggest trying a new category every year. Dip your toes into the “Red and Gold waters,” and try anything and everything. I assure you you’ll find tons of new friends and maybe even try something you never thought you would like!
To the juniors,
As next year will be your last year of Red and Gold, I want to give you a word of advice: take in every second of your Red and Gold experience —the good, the bad, and the ugly. If you haven’t yet, try being a captain! Again, thank you for all of your amazing work, and thank you for being wonderful role models for the underclasswomen. You rock!
To the seniors,
Now it’s time to get really sappy; you just experienced your last Red and Gold. I hope it was everything and more. I am so glad to have experienced my last Red and Gold with this amazing group of seniors. Thank you for everything you did these last eight weeks. You have all worked so hard, and I am so proud of you all.
To the offstage categories,
You are the unsung heroes of Red and Gold, and you deserve just as much praise and glory as everyone else. Without you, there would be no show. You are the driving force of Red and Gold, and I am eternally grateful and proud of every single one of you. From the fashion captains to the stage tech whizzes, you are awesome!
To the onstage categories,
Thank you for all the hard work you put in to make your drama performance, dance, drill, or choral perfect. I was awestruck watching you all absolutely nail each line, dance move, and high note every night. I am so glad that each of you was able to portray your amazing gifts on stage. Thank you for making this show come to life!
To the captains,
My dearest captains! I want to thank you for all the late nights, long hours, and creative drive you put into everything these past eight weeks. You are a fantastic group of girls, and you all put so much effort into making our show amazing. It was evident in every aspect, whether it was the beautiful props, the amazing choreography, or the incredible acting advice. I am incredibly grateful for all you did. I love you all so very much!
To my wonderful Co-Producer,
Ava, you are such an amazing Co-Producer and an even more amazing person. I am beyond grateful for all that you did for me and for the Gold team. The diligence you displayed while maintaining our finances was incredible. I am so proud of all your hard work! Thank you for being my right-hand woman, my biggest cheerleader, and my new best friend. There is no one I’d rather have won with. You are so awesome, and I know you will shine bright next year as Producer.
To the Red team,
Thank you for being such fierce competitors! You all are so amazing, and I can’t wait to see all the wonderful things Red has in store for years to come. Gold loves Red!
I cannot thank you all enough. You made my first win so incredibly special, and I am eternally grateful to you all. I love you all so much. GO GOLD!
With love from your Gold Producer,
Izzy Walker
