For the last year, seniors have been diligently preparing for life beyond Rosary Academy. Whether it be late nights filling out college applications or searching every website imaginable for scholarships, everyone’s figuring out where they’ll spend the next four years.
For anyone who may be blissfully unaware, today is March 1. Most will see it as any regular day, the start of a brand new month. But, for us seniors, the month we’ve been waiting for is finally here: it’s college decision month.
One of the hardest parts of the college application process is all the waiting that takes place. You apply as early as October and as late as January, and from there you just wait. Some schools will release their decisions early in January, but if not, you’re stuck waiting for a decision until March. You can refresh the portals hundreds of times or check every forum imaginable, but almost everyone will have to go through the torture of waiting and patience.
But now that college application season is here, the rest of our decisions will slowly be trickling in over the next month (hopefully). And before we all begin to solidify where we’ll spend the next four years of our lives, I decided to do a check-in with a few of my fellow seniors. More specifically, a check-in with how the waiting has felt and how they’ve been dealing with the anticipation of their decisions.
For many seniors, waiting for college applications has been the worst part. Lea Monroy ‘24 starts strong: “The anticipation of college decisions is KILLING me. I just want to find out already, so I can enjoy the rest of senior year without constantly thinking about whether I will get accepted to these schools or not. UGH!”
Senior Brooke Skipton also feels similar: “They need to hurry it up. Like, I’ve been waiting for so long, I don’t need to wait any longer. I don’t have 5ever to wait. Please. Please. I have one wish and that is to receive all my acceptances… and world peace too, but mostly the first one.” Don’t worry, Brooke, I understand your suffering.
Grace Kaiser ‘24 is also finally feeling the pressure of the uncertainty: “As we’re finally in March, the anticipation is finally getting to me. I’m waiting to hear four decisions, and I really just want to get it over and done so I can commit and know where I’m going to be in the fall. The big one I’m waiting for is CalTech, but I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high.”
Although it’s exciting to finally hear back from our various colleges, it can also be ever so slightly terrifying. As Grace Cabrera ‘24 puts it, “The anticipation is exciting, but still pretty scary. Since I applied to mostly California schools, most of my decisions are coming out in March, so I’m super eager for the next few weeks. But also, part of me is so nervous to find out because ignorance is bliss. But overall, I’m just happy that the actual hard part of applying is over and now I’m mostly excited to see where I end up.”
All in all, March is going to be a very eventful month for every senior at Rosary. Just remember that the wait is almost over, and no matter what happens, just know that we will all end up where we belong.
