This past Saturday, Rosary Water Polo won the 2024 CIF Championship against Northwood High School. This game was a huge accomplishment for the team.
From having a 4-12 record in the 2021-2022 season to winning the D4 water polo CIF Championship, it’s clear that the team has a bright future ahead of them.
I asked two team players about their experiences after the big win. Team member Maya Sarabia ’25 expressed, “The game was tough, but we all knew we were capable of winning and played 100% till the end. A lot of our team has been training since our loss [in the CIF Championship game] last year, so it felt so rewarding and amazing to be able to win with this team. All our long practices, meetings, training, and talks have paid off in such an amazing way, and we are so excited to keep working for next year.”
Maya is not the only player who felt amazing after the game. Senior Spencer Thiemann said, “Winning CIF was one of the best feelings, especially because I was surrounded by a team that I love. It was a tight game, but I knew that we would pull through in the end. I have been waiting for the moment where the entire team and coaches get to jump into the pool together, so I was extremely happy that we finally made it happen.”
Mr. Tice commented on the win, stating, “It’s wonderful to see water polo continue the tradition of excellence that has existed here since the program began 25 years ago.”
Rosary could not be prouder of these water polo champs!
