If someone were to ask me what my favorite season was, I would have to say track season. Nothing screams “SoCal spring” like shin splints, sunburns, and awkward-shaped tan lines in interesting places. Nonetheless, our track team is ready to lace up their spikes, hit the track (or jumps pit), and push themselves to take home the CIF plaque.
This year, Rosary got a new head coach: Derrien Burwell! Coach Burwell competed in Division 1 track and field at the University of Oregon, and we are excited to welcome this new talent to the team. She has a wealth of experience and a passion for the sport, which will guide our Royals throughout the season.
Adding to the anticipation are the newly appointed team captains for the upcoming season: Milan Smith ‘24, Paige Sorensen ‘24, Elena Saenz ‘24, Lainey Goldstein ‘24, Sol Lee ‘24, Maddie Lising ‘24, and Justine Wilson ‘26. Maddie shared, “I can’t wait to bond with the other throwers as this year’s throws captain!” Our captains are role models on and off the track, and they continually put in effort to make the team unlock so much potential: they lead by example during warm-ups, uplift the team before a race, and cheer on their teammates during a hard workout.
The first meet is tomorrow at Trabuco Hills High School. On Feb. 28, we will go up against Santa Margarita at Servite. The first Trinity League Cluster meet happens on March 6 at JSerra, followed by a dual meet against Mater Dei on March 21 at Servite.
We do not have a set date for senior night, but it will be posted on our Rosary T&F Instagram page soon, in the meantime come out and support our Royals and Friars as the season is about to start!
