For those who have not had the pleasure of meeting her, here’s your introduction to senior Althea Arazo. Born in the Philippines, she enjoys rock climbing, the show “Breaking Bad,” and spending time in nature. Come along with us as we explore her interests and learn all about one of our beloved senior Tigers!
Althea began robotics in her sophomore year, giving her an outlet for her interest in Engineering. She continued in her junior year, also taking Rosary’s Engineering class as her elective. Robotics was the perfect way to explore her interest in S.T.E.M.: “There are so many intricacies involving building the robot and I enjoy the hands-on aspect of being on the building team.” There are multiple teams in Robotics. Not only has Althea participated in the building of the robot, she has also driven it in competition and coded the program necessary for driving it.
As for Academic Decathlon, Althea was part of Rosary’s revitalization efforts for the program in her freshman year. She has competed every year since then, and this year, took on a leadership position as co-team captain. “Academic Decathlon helped me improve my speech skills and to grow more confident speaking in front of people. I was also exposed to the environment of
an interview process, which will be instrumental in my future search for employment.” Althea has won multiple medals in the Science and Mathematics categories, which classes like AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC have prepared her for.
As an early applicant to multiple schools, Althea has the distinction of being accepted early to University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; USC; Purdue University; and University of Washington. Althea gives credit to Rosary’s Counseling Department for their role in her success, “My counselor, Mrs. Lee, was instrumental in my acceptances because of her guidance in class selection at Rosary and in the minefield that is applying for college.”
We are so grateful that Althea was able to share how Rosary prepared her for college. Althea is extremely excited about her acceptance into the various universities she applied to and the entire Rosary community is proud of her outstanding achievement!
