Rosary has many students with gifts to share. Senior Sydney Swenson is a part of that mix with her wonderful baking skills. I was able to ask Sydney some questions about her hobby and what makes her the baker she is today.
Q: Why do you enjoy baking?
A: I enjoy baking because it helps me forget about my stress and escape for a little. Especially with all the chaos that comes with school.
Q: What is your favorite thing to bake?
A: My favorite thing to bake would have to be my strawberry puff pastries. I’ve been told that they truly are the best.
Q: What makes you get into the baking mood?
A: In my opinion, the best way to get into baking is by listening to old jazz or something like Frank Sinatra. It really relaxes the mind and makes everything come out tastier.
Q: Do you think anyone can learn how to bake, or is it a special gift?
A: I believe that anyone can learn how to bake. It’s simple once you get the perfect recipe. Everyone has to start somewhere, even if it’s store bought cookie dough.
Q: Where do you get your recipes from?
A: Some of my recipes are passed down from family, but others I discover through other bakers. I like challenging myself to try and bake new things.
Sydney’s baked goods not only bring comfort to herself, but they also bring joy to students on campus. Senior Claire Heidelman shares, “My favorite thing is her cream puffs. It’s an unhealthy obsession because I always eat seven of them. They are like biting into heaven.”
Samantha Oskorus ’25 also wanted to share her feelings about Sydney’s pastries: “I love everything she makes. I know lunch is going to be good when she brings out a tray of desserts.” Keep up the great work Sydney, you’ve got all the support from your fellow Royals.
If you ever see Sydney at school with a tray of pastries, make sure to grab one. You won’t regret trying her delicious concoctions!
