If you were to ask a teacher, “Do you have a favorite student?” 95% of the time they will respond with something along the lines of “I love all my students equally.” But, I’m here to prove that this statement is a LIE.
Generally speaking, teachers have students that particularly stick out either academically or personality wise, whether they want to admit it or not. I interviewed a handful of Rosary teachers to hear their point of view.
Starting off with a middle ground opinion, Mrs. Langenwalter said, “I can’t say I have favorite students, but I do know I’m my student’s favorite.” I couldn’t agree more.
However, some teachers completely object the idea of having favorites. Government teacher Mr. Chavez stated with a stern facial expression, “The idea behind having favorites is absolutely insane. Favorites should not be a thing.”
When asked about her opinions on students’ favorites, Ms. Barclay ’94 immediately replied, “It’s Marci. Marci Rau ’24 is my favorite student. The rest of you… USELESS!”
(Fun Fact: Ms. Barclay starts every class with a short applause for Marci Rau’s presence.)
Keeper of the iconic Room 112, Mr. Clough said, “Seniors Siena Lopez, Mallory Ye, and Isabella Montano are all my best friends. We play Wordscapes together before class and celebrate with every bonus word.”
Finally to wrap everything up, Mr. Tice expressed, “Some of my favorite students are Kristie O’Campo ’02, Nicola Walsh ’94, Megan Ochoa ’03, Kelly Cole ’10, and others who make me laugh so hard that I sought to bring them back to Rosary as employees. There are other students however, that I didn’t like, such as Andrea Barclay ’94, who came back and got jobs here.”
Either way, you should be kind and respectful to your teachers no matter what. Comment your favorite teacher down below!
