As Feb. 14 approaches fast, girlfriends around the world have a burning question: what on earth do I get my boyfriend? What is a good gift for a guy? Socks? Chocolate? Clothes? Honestly, we have no idea. I took the liberty of asking some of Servite’s most eligible bachelors what it is they really want this Valentine’s Day.
Junior David Lim got straight to the point, saying, “A girlfriend. But other than that, I don’t know. Maybe a hug. If I had one, I would probably just want to spend time with her.” Quality time—noted.
Freshman Julian Valdez responded to the question, “I mean, just being with that girl is enough, like hugging or talking is enough. But if I had to say a gift, I like jewelry, like rings or bracelets. OH, HANDWRITTEN LETTERS!! That would also be buss. Candles, LEGO beanies, or like some headwear. Or like a gift card to my favorite store, polaroid pictures of me and that person—and just like lots of affection.”
When asked for a comment, Pierre Balta ‘25 said, “To be honest, I don’t know what you want me to say. It’s the guy who gets stuff.” Not sure what he means when saying only guys give gifts, but either way, we’re rooting for him.
Sophomore Lawrence Blake responded, “You know those planes that can write people’s names in the sky? Imagine someone did that for me. That’d be pretty cool.” I mean, people do say you do a lot for the people you love.
Servite’s last bachelor is sophomore Joaquin Mercado. When asked about what he would appreciate, he stated, “A hug. Just kidding. Should I have a Valentine, I would greatly appreciate receiving a teddy bear adorned with a heart. Additionally, I would thoroughly enjoy a bouquet of roses accompanying the teddy bear, and perhaps even chocolates if the giver is feeling exceptionally kind.”
Rosary sophomore Tahlia Jain shared, “I was not expecting the Servite guys to respond like this—this is oddly wholesome. I’m surprised they’re so sentimental.”
Overall, it’s safe to say that many Servite boys would just appreciate someone to accompany them on Valentine’s Day (but some flowers would also be nice).
