Now that the Red and Gold season has begun, it is time to participate in our annual Red and Gold Donation Drives! From now until Friday, Feb. 9, Rosary will collect gently-used children’s and adult’s coats for the less fortunate in the red and gold-marked bins outside rooms 8 and 9. These coats will also count towards points for your Red and Gold team.
Mrs. Kearns ‘78 explains the importance of not only this coat drive but also the importance of donating in general: “We offer service projects during the Red and Gold season to instill a healthy mindset of competition while living out our school charism of ‘reaching out to the dear neighbor without distinction.’ So many people in our local community are in need and we are the ‘hands and feet of Christ’ who can bring Christ’s presence into the world by putting our faith into action! Red and Gold also aligns with the season of Lent, so it’s a great way to focus on service.”
Additionally, by donating to the drives, you’ll be able to help out your team by earning super valuable points. Ms. La Bonte ‘09 elaborates, “The coat and sock drive gives girls a chance to earn points towards their Red and Gold Teams. These points are important because they can help give your team more points towards winning.”
Gigi Coo ’24 gives her outlook on the donation drives: As a former white team member, I’ve seen close teams are to winning solely based on the shows, and the donation drives could be the one thing to push them one step closer to winning.”
The coat drive isn’t the only donation drive that will be running during the Red and Gold season. From Tuesday, Feb. 20 to Friday, March 1, there will be a sock drive. Bring new, white socks to the bins outside of rooms 8 and 9 to earn even more points for your teams.
Remember to give what you can to these donation drives, Royals! These are valuable points that your team will need to help win Red and Gold.
