Red and Gold is finally here! The school has been split into two teams, Red and Gold. Each color will face off in a series of performances made up of dances, drills, handmade sets, student run tech, choral and dramatic performances. For the next six weeks, our Royals will work hard to win for their team. The season has started off strong with the announcement of Producers, Co-Producers, and Captains.
The two Producers are seniors Izzy Walker and Ava Fishman and the Co-Producers are juniors Jazzy Sandoval and Ava Barretto.
Izzy Walker was a Co-Producer for Gold last year with Producer Juliet Cortes ‘23. Together they led an amazing show. Last year Ava Fishman and Reagan Beuerlein ‘23 led the Red team to a victory with a fantastic performance. Here, Izzy and Ava talk about the upcoming Red and Gold season.
When asked about what freshmen or new students should know about Red and Gold, Izzy explained the importance of getting out of your comfort zone: “Do a on-stage for at least one year. Even if you are shy, it’s easy to shine in a dance or in choral. Definitely live in the moment and try new things.”
Ava answered the same question, saying, “I have a ton of advice for freshman or new students coming into Red and Gold! Keep an open mind! It can be so scary to think about having to wear crazy makeup or dancing on stage or wearing a costume or acting but it will help you learn so much! Also, talk to the people you are surrounded with during Flex!”
Izzy and Ava also share about their experience last year as Co-Producers. Ava explains how much she learned: “Being Producer/Co-Producer has been definitely one of the hardest things I have ever done. You definitely have to grow thick skin and get ready for all the criticism people have for you and also have to juggle so many different things while trying to make everyone happy! The drama gets real, but nothing beats seeing your show for the first time after looking back at all the breakdowns, the edits, sketches and work that has gone into the performance for the last three months!”
Izzy also shares how much fun it was last Red and Gold season: “I really enjoyed it, even more than the previous years as a Captain or participant. Being a Producer and Co-Producer allows you to see the entire show unfold and the inner workings. It was so cool to see! Last year was definitely challenging and tracking the Gold team’s budget was difficult but it was so so worth it.”
For the last question, both answered what they were most excited about for this upcoming Red and Gold show. Izzy exclaimed her excitement about, “… seeing the show we made. And for myself I really want to win because I’ve never won before. It would really be the cherry on top to a perfect last Red and Gold!”
Ava also shared her excitement, “First of all I would like to say, my team is already so amazing and we have so many talented girls working together, plus I have an amazing Co-Producer who makes my life so much easier but I’m most excited to tell the rest of my team what our show is about and show them how they are going to be key pieces in every part of our show. Our script, songs, dances, choral, everything is already amazing and I can’t wait to show it all off to everyone!”
All captains have been working extra hard the past couple of weeks preparing each performance. Let’s get excited for Red and Gold!
