This week, Royals can bring in blankets and towels to support a wonderful organization called SpoofDawg to the Rescue. I’ve volunteered with this non-profit for four years, and it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences to know that my work, even something as simple as inventorying proceeds, is making the difference in the lives of rescued animals. We are truly a unique organization, and our impact is real. I answered a few questions to tell the Rosary community about who we are:
What does SpoofDawg to the Rescue do?
We provide vital supplies to animal rescues for free. These supplies include, but are not limited to food, treats, toys, kennels, beds, blankets and towels, leashes and collars, medicine, and shampoo.
What’s special about SpoofDawg to the Rescue?
What’s special about us is we work directly with animal rescues—not shelters. Rescues, unlike shelters, are not government funded, so all their proceeds come from donations or out-of-pocket.
What some people may not know is rescues actually save animals that would have been euthanized at animal shelters (not all shelters practice euthanasia). Many of these animals are on hospice care, very sick, or elderly, and can be very expensive to take care of.
Does SpoofDawg work directly with animals?
No, SpoofDawg is pretty one-of-a-kind in that we provide resources to the rescues so that they can take care of their animals with ease. This way, we are able to help around 60 rescues rather than just provide to one or two.
Where do proceeds come from?
SpoofDawg gets much of its resources from big pet stores and sometimes even factory-direct donations. Most of the supplies we receive are either soon to expire or have some kind of manufacturing defect that makes them unable to sell for profit.
We also receive grant money and donations that pay for warehouse rent and the cost to transport large donations, we also do small fundraisers outside pet stores and at veterinarian offices. Finally, we do host a few large events every year, like our annual Quartermania, when we partner with a single rescue to auction off items for quarters, and all the proceeds go to that rescue.
How do you help rescues during the California wildfire season?
Every year, we haul emergency supplies up to Northern California to provide relief supplies to rescues and communities that are evacuating their animals.
We also provide similar relief for other natural disasters like earthquakes and storms.
