Now that it is officially cuffing season, we need to help the girl community and ask Servite boys to define for us what it is like for them when they’re talking to a girl. We received many different opinions on talking stages from each grade at Servite, so buckle up, this is going to be a bumpy road.
Starting off with freshman Nick Goldstein, he shared with us what a talking stage is to him: “When you guys aren’t sure if you like each other yet.” Not only does he define what a talking stage is to him, but he also told us how he knows if his talking stage is starting to become exclusive: “Just ask if you are, if she says no, dip.” Thanks, Nick, that response was true, a little cutthroat, but we love the honesty.
Next up, Taeil Lozano ‘26, we asked him the question we’re all dying to know: is talking to someone exclusive? He responded, “If you just started talking to someone, it doesn’t mean you’re exclusive yet. If you’re talking to them for a very long time, it starts to get more exclusive. I think that you can talk to more than one girl at once, when you’re in a talking stage.” We think many girls would disagree, but that’s why we’re getting these very colorful answers, to keep the girls out of the dark and into the light of knowledge.
Taeil also enlightens us with his definition of a talking stage: “A talking stage is getting to know someone. You know when you’re officially talking when you are both flirting in your snaps, texts, emojis, etc. for a long period of time.” We can’t argue with that response, it’s pretty true, but what is a “long time” according to Taeil: “2 months” WOAH. Okay then, onto the next person.
This next spirited Servite boy would like to keep his name anonymous, so he’s going to be Freddy Friar. Freddy Friar ‘25 says, “The talking stage is when you’re getting to know someone romantically, but you’re not officially dating yet.” We can agree with this, but how does Freddy Friar know if he’s officially in a talking stage: “You’re in the talking stage if you’re spending time together, having deep conversations, and getting to know each other on a more personal level. It’s a way to see if you have a connection before deciding to take things further on.” Honestly, we couldn’t agree more. It’s refreshing to see a quote that we can 100% agree with.
Finally, senior Lorenzo Diomedes – we asked him to define a talking stage and he said, “When we’re basically dating, but we’re not quite there yet.” That makes sense, but we asked Lorenzo how he knows he’s dating the girl and he responded with, “You know if you’re dating because you first have to ask her to be your girlfriend.” We can agree with this, this makes sense…
So, girls, as we’ve seen, sometimes guys can have interesting understandings, but that’s fine because now we have a new well of knowledge to soothe our overthinking minds, and help us persevere in our future, or current, talking stages. Thank you to all the Servite guys that participated in this informative article.

Two months is simply the time it takes me to learn a lesson in math; not long enough.
