“Dancing with the Stars” is a competitive dancing show that partners various celebrities with professional dancers. Each couple must perform a ballroom-styled dance routine based on that week’s theme. It is a dramatic and heartwarming show that has caught the attention of many, especially Rosary students. I can confidently say that this season of “Dancing with the Stars” has been the best I have ever seen. The exponential talent and personality portrayed through each dance this year has been unmatched. From having the youngest pro ever to having no eliminations after the semi-finals, this season has sparked many jaw-dropping moments.
My favorite dance this season was by far Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy’s waltz to “La Vie en Rose” by Édith Piaf from the semi-finals. I feel like this dance perfectly showcased the beauty of transforming into a young woman (which was especially important since Xochitl was the youngest star this season). The relatable message shown in her dance touched the hearts of many, including myself. It also made me cry like a baby because Val’s choreography was so stunning.
Senior Isabella Florin is a huge fan of this show and eagerly watched the finale: “My favorite dance from the finale was Jason Mraz’s. He truly showed off his dance moves. It was just so vibrant and fun. Jason and his partner Daniella had such good chemistry, making their dance even more intriguing. I think he should have won but I’m so proud of all the finalists.” I couldn’t agree more, Bella!
Isabella Walker ‘24 shares her favorite moment of the season: “My favorite moment was when guest judge Billy Porter called Harry Jowsey a tree trunk after his dance. I have been on the Harry hate train for a while, and this comment brightened my mood. I loved Harry as a personality on the show, but come on people, his dancing seriously wasn’t good enough to be voted back every week. Sorry, not sorry!”
Emma Muse ‘25 explains the moment she cannot stop thinking about from this season: “My favorite moment from this season was Jason Mraz and his partner Daniella’s jive during Motown Night. It was very energetic and gave me goosebumps.”
Just in case these moments weren’t enough, I compiled a list of honorable mentions from this season:
- When all of the stars made their grand entrance to the finale sitting on giant disco balls hanging from the ceiling. What?!
- The entirety of Taylor Swift night. More specifically, Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach’s Argentine Tango to “Don’t Blame Me” that earned them a perfect score.
- When Barry Williams and Peta Murgatroyd won the dance competition on Whitney Houston night.
- Harry Jowsey and Riley Arnold’s close moment during their last dance of the season, and the debate on whether they kissed or not (I don’t think they did).
- Charity Lawson and Artem Chigvintsev’s contemporary dance to “Lose You to Love Me” by Selena Gomez.
- Hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough’s surprise performance during the finale that included many surprise guests including beloved “Dancing with the Stars” pro, Witney Carson!
Overall, this season of “Dancing with the Stars” was one for the books and I think all of the new and inventive choreography opens a new door for future seasons!
