Anticipation for the final show of this year’s Trinitas season has begun!
This past Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 28 & 29, Rosary and Servite hopefuls auditioned for Trinitas’ spring musical “Hello, Dolly!”
“Hello, Dolly!” by Jerry Herman is a musical filled with charisma, joy, and heart. Following recently widowed matchmaker, Dolly Levi, the show is full of energetic dance numbers and powerfully moving ballads, proving boisterously charming from start to finish.
For the past two weeks, you have probably seen these actors and actresses rehearsing their audition songs in the hallways or practicing the dance combination they learned at the audition workshop around campus.
But finally, after much waiting and preparation, new and returning students came to the Servite Theatre ready to show off their talents.
Servite senior Matthew Ghebrial shared how he felt about his final Trinitas audition, “I think my audition went pretty well. I sang ‘16 Going On 17’ from the ‘Sound of Music.’ I added some elements that made Mr. Betts laugh, so whether I got a role or not, at least I entertained.”
Returning thespian Sami Dicrisi ‘26 touched on her nervousness leading up to the audition day, “I was definitely nervous, but my friends and the directors are all totally supportive. And I honestly ended up having so much fun!”
Similarly, Rosary senior Mia Kennedy stated how she felt about her audition and also gave a tip for future Trinitasian performers: “Auditions are always a bit scary for me, but I think for the first time, they went okay! I tried to give it my all, especially considering that it’s my last audition I’ll ever do for Trinitas. I messed up the pacing a little bit, but I simply tried to give good facial expressions and emotions. That’s my number one tip: If you mess up on your song or while dancing, just try to give good facial expressions, you’ll be surprised how far it can take you!”
For some students, the annual Trinitas spring musical brings intense feelings of excitement and anticipation. Sophomore Matilda Simmons shared her experience auditioning: “I think that auditions for this show were quite a whirlwind. I love auditioning and I love the feeling of excitement about what is to come. I think I did the best I could and I am so happy for anyone who auditioned.”
Casting outcomes aside, we can’t wait to see these auditionees, and many more, perform onstage later this spring!
But with everything going on onstage, one might wonder who is running things behind the scenes… and that would be no other than our very own production team: Isabela Delgado ’24 as stage manager, Riley Martinez ’24 as assistant stage manager, and Alyssa Parial ’25 as assistant director/ ASM.
Together, they take notes, write stage directions, and call cues for the shows. They are a team crucial to the overall success of the show, making sure actors and tech crew members are doing their jobs correctly during rehearsals and performances. Riley shared her excitement about her involvement in this show, “I love being a part of the behind the scenes and actually create the magic that puts the show together. There’s a lot of hard work that goes into the show that you don’t see and that’s the thrill about it. I’m excited to watch the actors grow into their roles and see the show fully come together.”
The full cast list will be announced today, Friday Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. on the Trinitas Website.
If you didn’t get a chance to audition, but still want to be a part of the show, Tech Crew Applications will be available soon.
