To welcome the winter season, Rosary hosted their annual winter sports rally on Wednesday, Nov. 29. Royals, accompanied by some shadows, put on a great rally to get the winter sports teams ready for their season. The theme was “Frozen” and included introductions to sports teams and performances from cheer, dance, and orchestra.
The rally began with the seniors’ grand entrance, followed by each class singing the chorus of “Let It Go” to compete for the spirit stick. Afterwards, each sports team was called up to show off their skills through videos, which included basketball, soccer, wrestling, water polo, cheer, and dance.
Royals also got to watch the cheer and dance team perform their competition routines for the audience. Junior cheerleader Jillian DeVega shares, “We were excited to show our new routine. It was great practice for our competition this weekend too.”
In between the team videos, Royals were called down to participate in games between the classes. These games involved running, kicking, racing, and laughing as Royals tried to prove their class was the best. Winner of the tennis ball game Aundrea Velazquez ’24 states, “Volleyball drills paid off because we would do this as at practice all the time.”
Following the fun games, Royals got a surprise performance of Christmas hand bells from the orchestra class. The audience enjoyed the soothing tones that moved everyone into the winter spirit. English teacher Ms. Barclay ’94 expresses, “My heart is typically like a blackened lump of coal, but performances like that move me. I even got a little emotional watching these students show such bravery. I am now inspired to go to the whole performance next week.”
Before wrapping up the rally, ASB gathered to announce the winner of the spirit stick. The freshmen class took home the prize and celebrated their victory together. Royals enjoyed this fun way to hype up the winter sports teams for their matches, and we hope all our teams find success this season.
