This past Saturday, Rosary’s cheer team showed off their amazing skills at Universal Cheerleaders Association Regionals. The event took place at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach and was an opportunity for the Royals to qualify to compete at UCA Nationals at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL.
The team arrived all dressed up in their “gameday” uniforms and full glam at 11:45 a.m. to start off the morning by watching other teams. Riley Thompson ‘25 said, “My favorite team we watched and supported is Downey. I love screaming every word of their cheer and watching their crazy good skills.” After the Royals watched teams to scope out their competition and cheered for all their friends, they headed to a field to warm up.
The girls ran through their routine a few times, and once they felt fully prepared, they checked into official warm-ups. Samantha Oskorus ‘25 recalled, “Warm-ups went well. We were excited to perform and show off all our hard work to our families, the judges, and other teams.”
Freshman Brooklyn Ortiz explained that despite her nerves from performing at a regional competition for the first time, she was able to have a lot of fun: “Although I was nervous to compete, I had a great time. We had a lot of energy, were loud, and performed very well.”
The team was thrilled to find out that they recieved a bid for nationals in Florida. Jacee Baumann ‘24 shared her excitement to compete in nationals: “The trip to Florida is my favorite part of cheer because we get to bond with one another and make tons of memories. Last year we got eighth place and we are hoping to do even better this year.”
The girls will travel to Florida in February to show off their routine and hopefully come home with a win.
