The Servite Fashion Show is a tradition where Rosary and Servite students (and Servite mothers) walk and work a runway show to raise money for tuition assistance. Along with viewing the runway show, guests may also buy goods from small businesses, bid for various baskets, and enjoy a nice meal.
Dr. Pautsch shared more about Royals’ involvement: “The fashion show started 65 years ago. I know that Rosary students have been asked to participate for at least the last 30 or so years.”
This past Sunday, Oct. 22, Julia Watson ‘24 was one of the many gorgeous Royals to walk to the runway. She shared her experience with me.
Q: How was your experience at the fashion show?
A: I loved being a part of the Servite Fashion Show. I was able to spend time with a few girls that I enjoyed being with. I didn’t know what to expect with rehearsals or the performance, but my experience was truly memorable, and I wish I could do it all over again.
Q: How were the preparations for the show?
A: We started rehearsing in September at Servite, and the girls in the fashion show would have to practice walking in our heels at Servite every other week. Then, as we got closer to the show, we had our outfit fittings, our first rehearsal on the stage, and a lot of makeup and hair prep the day of. It was the true “model” experience, and as crazy as the day was, I had a lot of fun being a part of it.
Q: Have you been involved before? How did you get involved in this past show?
A: I have never seen or been a part of the fashion show. I didn’t know what I was getting into, but I was excited to be a part of it. I knew it was a big deal to be chosen for the fashion show, and I was so happy when I was asked to be in it.
Q: What was your favorite outfit change?
A: I only had two outfit changes. The first was my “streetwear,” and the second was my formal dress. I thought both were super cute, but I liked my dress the best mainly because it was easy to get on and wasn’t super formal, so it felt more like a homecoming dress.
Q: How did your family react to seeing you on stage?
A: Even though I didn’t see my family while I was walking, since I was trying not to fall, I was still able to hear them. Having family, friends, and others screaming and cheering for me made walking in front of 900 guests a lot easier.
Q: Anything you thought was memorable or fun that you would like to add?
A: Typically, the models stay in the hotel the night before the show, so that was fun—being able to hang out with all the girls and share dinner and breakfast was memorable.
Having personally attended the show, I can confidently say that seeing all the work, dedication, and time that everyone had put into this event was special and unforgettable. I mean, come on, how many people can say they saw their peers walk a runway?
The annual Servite Fashion Show was a huge hit as always; everyone involved did an amazing job organizing the event and all the models walked with such confidence. This tradition from Rosary and Servite is such a fun event, and we can’t wait for next year!
