Matching pjs, pumpkin patches, and cheesy Christmas movies—it’s cuffing season, Royals. For the students who don’t know what cuffing season is, here’s the definition: the season where people start coupling up to avoid loneliness during the holidays.
In order to calm frantic Royals trying to find a boyfriend, we asked Servite students to explain their point of views about getting in a new relationship during this beautiful season.
What does cuffing season mean to you, and is it even relevant to you?
Ryan Kovats ’26: It’s not relevant to me, but I think it’s a time where people get lonely and they lookin’ for a boo thang.
Jack Gogan ’26: Cuffing season is when you have a girlfriend during the period of October through January. I would say I care about it because having a girlfriend during cuffing season makes the season more enjoyable. I need to be loved.
Moises Ibarra ’24: Cuffing season is actually one of the best times of the year, arguably ranked first and then Christmas as second.
Would you rather get a girlfriend in or out of cuffing season?
Ryan: I’d say out of cuffing season because it’s a legit relationship. When it’s cuffing season, it seems more desperate.
Jack: In cuffing season because like there’s a lot of fun activities to do; it’s the best part of the year, and I would want to enjoy that with my girlfriend. When I get one. Yes, I want a girlfriend right now. Rosary girls, I’m open—contact me.
Moises: Personally, I would prefer getting a girlfriend in cuffing season because the season already gives good vibes.
What are some activities you would want to do with your potential girlfriend during cuffing season?
Ryan: I’d prefer to bond with her and her family more during that time. For the activities, since it’s in the winter, I’d like to do Christmasy type stuff, you know, like movies, hot cocoa, matching pjs, the whole nine yards.
Jack: I would like to go to pumpkin patches, Knotts Scary Farm, and watch scary movies during Halloween. During Thanksgiving, I would want to enjoy time with our families. During Christmas, I want to go ice skating, get all cozied up, and watch delicious movies.
Moises: I think it would be really great to have a first date ice skating or doing something holiday related.
Now we needed to ask a newly exclusive couple—Delilah Moos ‘26 and Levi Laughlin ‘26.
Are you happy you secured a relationship for cuffing season?
Delilah: I am so happy to be able to do all the stupid Christmas stuff with him and also not have to deal with other Servite boys.
Levi: I actually love all the little holiday activities and being cheesy with my girlfriend.
Now, Emma Muse ’26 (representing both herself and her boyfriend, James) decided to share her opinion on cuffing season through a long-term relationship’s point of view.
Does cuffing season matter to you?
Emma: Cuffing season 100% matters to me. I love the holiday season, and even though it’s fun to have a boyfriend during summer and do all the summer activities, nothing beats having a boyfriend in the holiday season. We can go look at Christmas lights or go to a pumpkin patch, carve pumpkins, and watch scary movies. The list goes on and on.
James (actually Emma): I love having a girlfriend in the summer the most because I love the beach, but cuffing season is a close second because I just love spending time with Emma—I love Emma. I love doing all of the fun holiday activities, especially looking at Christmas lights and watching Christmas movies with Emma because I love Emma.
[Disclaimer: Emma wrote both of these quotes, and her boyfriend probably doesn’t even know that cuffing season exists.]
As we have gathered from three single boys, one new couple, and one long term couple, we know that cuffing season is a beloved time of the year for everyone. Cuffing season gives the couples the time to become closer and experience the holiday season. For those who are single, fear not—this is your chance to live your best life with your friends (while also trying to get a relationship).
