When attending a Servite football game, everyone can expect to see the Friars causing chaos and cheering in the notorious Asylum student section. But at the Mater Dei game, the Asylum debuted a new addition to the student section–the Friar mascot! For those unaware, the Friar (an ordained priest) is Servite’s school mascot. It represents Servite’s deep roots of brotherhood and faith, making it the ideal choice to empower the school at sporting events.
Rosary teacher, and alumnus of Servite, Mr. Rosetti ’11 shared his thoughts about this new mascot: “It would have been more fun during my games if I had this mascot, but we made do with the natural lively hood of the Servite student section.”
Senior Jake Raztlaff explained, “The new Asylum mascot is one of the best things to happen to Servite since I’ve been here; it’s awesome to see more student representation in the school.” As you can tell from my conversation with Jake, the Friars are very excited about this new mascot.
Moises Ibarra ‘24 shares his enthusiasm about the new mascot: “I’d say that the new mascot was honestly really random and surprising at first, but it’s something we needed to elevate school spirit, and it has proved so at our games.” Moises also recalls his initial reaction to the mascot: “It honestly made me laugh really hard the first time I saw it, but it helps to get all the guys in a good spirit.” I totally agree with my Servite brothers in that this new mascot will elevate school spirit. So come to the remaining football games to see this iconic mascot in action!
While Servite students are overwhelmingly excited about this new mascot, the Rosary Royals are not as excited, but still respect the Friars’ school spirit.
Senior cheerleader Jacee Baumann shares: “I was very surprised when I saw it, but I think it’s cool and different.”
Senior Cait Smith is really curious about the new Servite mascot: “I am wondering who is underneath that costume. Who is that Friar? And I wish he did a backflip like Mater Dei’s mascot did.”
Now Rosary students are wondering: When are we getting our own Royal mascot?
