We all have opinions that we choose to keep to ourselves, whether it is to avoid losing friends or getting canceled on the internet. However, today is the day that we let these thoughts loose. Before reading this article, just know that you may never be able to look at these people the same way again—your view of those who have bravely shared their hot takes may be tainted with disgust forever. So read with caution; viewer discretion is advised.
Below, some of our fellow Royals and teachers shared controversial hot takes spicier than chili peppers:
To start us off easy, Madame Neumann shares her wholesome controversial take: “You can be a cat person and a dog person at the same time. The two can peacefully coexist within one person.” And even if you don’t agree with her, there’s no way you can be mad about this peaceful statement.
On the other (slightly less wholesome) side of the animal spectrum, Mr. Guerrero said he strongly dislikes dolphins and loves killer whales: “There is a dark side to dolphins” he says, refusing to elaborate. We thought this take was a little suspicious, but we are too scared to look further into it, so we’ll just leave it at that. Research at your own risk.
Senior Sara Garcia upset many coffee lovers (us included) by saying, “Tea is better than coffee.” In our humble opinions, tea is hot water infused with dirt and wilted flowers meant for the UK. Throwback to the Boston Tea Party.
Sammy Oskorus ‘25 explained how “Canes is better than Chick-fil-A” and we audibly gasped. Although Canes does have some breathtaking Texas toast, their chicken simply cannot compete with Chick-fil-A. Sorry Sammy, but your chicken opinion isn’t favored. Mrs. D’Alba shared that “Veggie burgers are better than regular burgers,” voicing her dislike of both Chick-fil-A and Canes. We can get behind some good black bean burgers, but leave the vegan chicken nuggets alone!
Ms. Barclay ‘94 proudly shared her hot takes: “If you have a significant other, they should absolutely not have to ask you to a dance in any outlandish way. That is absurd and I have never heard of anything more ridiculous.” So to all the people who have been getting asked to Homecoming… Ms. Barclay said it, not us.
Just in time for Rosary Day, Ms. Barclay also shares, “I would rather gouge out my eyeballs than go to Disneyland.” Even as OC natives ourselves, we would have to agree about Disneyland—the crowds and concrete heat are a major deterrent.
Senior Melanie Kamel commented, “Harry Styles is not all that,” which caused a school-wide upset. Well actually, Harry Styles is a triple threat: actor, singer, and most importantly, a baker. Grace Cabrera ‘24 added to our discussion on the topic of controversial singers: “Sabrina Carpenter is a better singer than Olivia Rodrigo. But I will admit Olivia writes better lyrics but that’s not the point here.”
Alyssa Ramirez ‘24 informed us that, “Timothee Chalamet is not attractive,” and put French students in distress, as Room 104 has a lifesize cardboard cutout of Timothee Chalamet to celebrate his greatness. Do we need to purchase a cutout of Kylie Jenner, too, so they can be a couple?
Senior DimiAna Daskalakis shocked the world with the most sizzling, red hot take: “Socks with sandals are cool.” Rosary girls would be intrigued to know that Adam Sandler, a well-loved celebrity, rocks socks and sandals on the regular and probably agrees with this hot take.
Lainey Goldstein, senior and Nike lover, shared, “Nike doesn’t have good running shoes. They suck.” Honestly, you’re just paying for bad shoes with a Nike logo we know and love!
Hannah Dunton ‘24 shared, “Red Vines are better than Twizzlers.” While the flavor of Twizzlers is immaculate, nothing beats the texture and nostalgia of Red Vines.
To add on this licorice debacle, Mrs. Ward said, “Black licorice is horrible and it should be banned.” An even more boiling hot take would be if someone actually liked black licorice.
Mr. Rossetti said, “This isn’t a hot take, but a pet peeve. When people switch accents when talking in a single sentence. Pick an accent and stick with it.” We can speak on behalf of the Royal Reporter by saying our pet peeve is when other students take journalism fuel from the candy jar.
Senior Gigi Coo put Marvel Comic lovers into a snafu: “The newest spider verse movie is bad.” The real question is, are the Marvel movies overhyped?
This year, a new Barbie movie was released, and senior Julia Watson had some things to say: “The Barbie movie is not as good as everyone says it is. I like the songs and Ryan Gosling.” Okay, but who DOESN’T love Ryan Gosling? His majestic flow and rock-hard abs paired with the “Mojo Dojo Casa House” scene can live in our heads rent free.
Senior Milan Smith has a strong opinion on Gatorade flavors: “Yellow Gatorade is the best flavor and Cucumber is the worst flavor.” Are you team Lemon-Lime or team Lime-Cucumber Thirst?
If any of these hot takes ruined your lives or your friendships, we apologize, but it’s better tht you know now. However, we did give you a warning. So keep those takes hot, Royals, and always speak your truth regardless of the haters.

I’m right, I’m the best. So is yellow Gatorade.

Fabulous hot takes. Agreed on dolphins being creeps.

Could not agree with Sara Garcia more- tea is where it’s at! Could not DISAGREE more with Melanie Kamel. Harry Styles is the epitome of perfection.

You did NOT photoshop my face onto a green Gatorade bottle. This is WRONG #teambluegatorade
