Homecoming: a night full of music, lights, glitter, and dresses. Little does anyone know what really goes on behind the scenes. But I can tell you, it’s not what you think. A top secret council at Rosary came together to brainstorm homecoming themes. The pressure was on, and although they ultimately decided on the wonderful “Hollywood” theme, there are many other themes that were unfortunately rejected. An anonymous inside source on the coucil gave me a list of some of these options. I thought that as a Royal, it was my duty to share the truth with you. Here are some of the rejected themes:
- Homecoming in the Swamp (“Shrek”)
- Homecoming 20:23 (Bible)
- Stealing the Moon at Homecoming (“Despicable Me”)
- Wild Wild Homecoming (Wild Wild West)
- Level Up at Homecoming (Video Games)
- Dance the Night Away (“Barbie”)
- Make History at Homecoming (“Radio Rebel”/Debbie Ryan)
- Rock the Night at Homecoming (“Camp Rock”)
- Evolving at Homecoming (Industrial Revolution)
- Homecoming: The Musical (“High School Musical”)
- Get Your Oogie Boogie On (Haunted/horror)
- Dance Battle (Roman Empire)
- A Fetch Homecoming (Y2K/”Mean Girls”)
- Racing the Route to Homecoming (“Cars 2”)
- Homecoming: Secret Mission (Spies)
- Don’t Stop the Music (“Teen Beach Movie”)
- Your Heart Will Go On at Homecoming (“Titanic”)
- Gnomeo and Juliet (Gardening Tools)
- To Be or Not To Be at Homecoming (Renaissance/”Romeo and Juliet”)
- The Era’s Tour: Homecoming Version (Taylor Swift)
- You Belong at Homecoming (another Taylor Swift)
- Homecoming with the Simpsons (“The Simpsons”)
- Let It Grow-Co (“The Lorax”)
Sara Garcia ’24 shares her opinion on these homecoming themes: “I think the Bible theme would be fun because it really channels our identity as a Catholic school while letting students have fun with such a quirky theme.”
All jokes aside, here are some actual Homecoming themes that we think would be fun:
- An Enchanted Homecoming
- Spiderman Homecoming (Spiderman: Homecoming”)
- Fun House (Carnival)
- Light Up the Night at Homecoming (Glow in the Dark)
- A Sweet Homecoming (Candyland)
- Masquerade Ball
- A Magical Night (Disney)
Homecoming will take place on Oct. 14 in the Servite Quad at 7 p.m. All Homecoming information can be found in an email sent by Ms. La Bonte ‘09. We hope to see you there!
