The most anticipated Rosary tradition is right around the corner. Rosary Day (celebrated on October 6 this year) isn’t just a day where the entire student body goes to Disneyland; it’s a symbolic ceremony that celebrates the transition of the junior class from underclasswomen to upperclasswomen. The student body watches as the juniors receive their class rings from alumnae and sing their class song. Then, a shower of flower petals rains down from the sky, and the whole student body is off to Disneyland!
By now, the juniors are scrambling to find the perfect outfit for Rosary Day, but never fear; we seniors are here to provide you with some of the cutest and comfiest outfit ideas to make your Rosary Day the best it can be.
But before that, be sure your Rosary Day outfit is in line with the handbook. First, wear a dress that is at or below your knees. If you are wearing a dress without sleeves, make sure the shoulder straps are at least two inches wide and no undergarments are visible. If dresses aren’t your thing, opt for a pantsuit! When it comes to shoes, small heels or sandals are your best bet; however, make sure your shoes have a backstrap and the heel isn’t any higher than 3 inches.
Now, here are some different styles and ideas for your outfit if you have no idea where to start:
Floral Print Galore
Floral dresses are definitely the most popular choice for Rosary Day outfits. Brooke Skipton ’24 describes her dress: “I wore a white dress with blue flowers. I would describe it as a ‘Mother-Daughter Garden Party’ vibe. It was super cute though and I still love the dress.” Senior Siena Lopez adds, “I loved my dress! I felt that the flower pattern was fitting for the theme and it had some of my favorite colors on there. Rosary Day was super special and I am really glad that I could wear a pretty dress throughout the ceremony.” I completely agree with Siena; wearing a floral dress is not only adorable but also symbolizes how the junior class is blooming and becoming a part of the upper class.
The Babydoll Dress Movement
I not only opted for the floral pattern but also the babydoll style. If you are unfamiliar, a babydoll dress is categorized as having a square neckline and ruffled sleeves. The babydoll dress is probably one of my all-time favorite style of dresses because it accentuates the neckline while not being too revealing. It also looks great on every body type, making it the perfect style for Rosary Day. Caitlin Smith ’24 agrees a babydoll dress is the way to go: “Everyone wore one. It’s a Rosary Day classic. They’re cute, trendy, and appropriate for Rosary Day. A necklace also looks good with it.”
What Shoes to Choose?
The biggest thing I worried about last year was tripping and falling on my face while walking up to get my ring. Choosing the perfect shoes is almost, if not as important, as finding the perfect outfit. Senior Natalia Chavez offers her advice: “My biggest piece of advice is do NOT wear tall heels. They will sink into the grass and be really hard to walk in; I’d recommend wearing wedges or any heel that’s wide enough to walk comfortably in.” Sara Garcia ’24 suggests, “Try wearing platform boots or nice loafers. If they’re comfortable enough, you could even wear them to Disneyland.”
All in all, whatever you decide to wear for Rosary Day, you should feel comfortable. My advice to all juniors: wear what makes you feel happy and beautiful. You are going to remember this day for the rest of your life, so make your outfit memorable. Happy shopping, Royals!
