Around this time last year, the term “Nepo Babies” started popping up in the media. “Nepo Babies” are famous children of celebrities. While there are no currently known Nepo Royals, there is plenty of opportunity since several Royals come from famous relatives.
First, Cait Smith ’24 has not one, but TWO famous relatives. Her dad, Kevin Lewis, is a director and has worked with many household names such as Nicholas Cage and Chloe Grace Moretz. Additionally, Cait’s great grandpa, Tom Tully, can be seen in cowboy movies from the early 1900s as an actor, and he even earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Cait says, “Growing up surrounded by the movie business and a bit of fame has driven me to pursue a life in Hollywood as well. It’s super exciting to have so many connections to all these really well-known people. My dad actually has Toby McGuires phone number just casually in his phone—it’s absolutely insane.”
Next, senior Sage Bumgartner’s uncle, John McEntee, has grown a following on social media because of his conservative dating app, “The Right Stuff.” McEntee shares, “Working on The Right Stuff is rewarding in so many ways. We just reached half a million followers on TikTok but more importantly had our seventh engagement from the app. It’s fun to see our work translating into real marriages and happy ever afters.”
Finally, Gigi Coo ’24 shared about her grandmother, Lydia Reed: “My Grandma started on Broadway when she was only five years old. Her first ever show was a play called ‘Ms. Mcthing’ featuring Helen Hayes. As she continued her career in the arts industry, she started to do more movies and TV shows. In her teenage years, she starred in a movie called ‘High Society,’ which featured Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong. Later in her career, she starred in a TV show titled ‘The Real Mccoy’s,’ which even featured Grace Kelly. Her work in this business has influenced my passion and drive for performing and acting. I honestly don’t know if I would have found my passion if it weren’t for her guidance!”
It’s safe to say there is a lot of potential for these celebrity-adjacent Royals. It’s so crazy to think that there are relatives of celebrities roaming the halls of Rosary!
