Over the summer, Southern California Swim Club coach and Servite swim coach, Steve Pickell, decided to create a SoCal club swim team of Rosary and Servite’s top swimmers to push athletes to their fullest capabilities: “The mission of SoCal Aquatics is to create an environment that will enable every athlete to reach their goals and potential, both in swimming and in life.”
This team has been training hard, and now, they practice at Servite’s pool every day from 5-6:30 p.m. The combination team is a great way for Rosary and Servite’s finest swimmers to strengthen their brotherhood/sisterhood bond while practicing the sport they love.
The brand-new club team will practice throughout the following months during the year-long swim season and will take a break during the high school season. Varsity Rosary swimmer Olivia O’Day ‘26 describes how rigorous training affects her performance as an athlete: “The workouts really help me fine-tune my skills and being with the Servite students helps motivate me to be my best all the time. It’s definitely a challenging team but it has improved me as a swimmer.”
The training will better prepare the athletes for Trinity League meets. Lucy Popovich ‘26 explains how this program will benefit the Rosary Swim Team: “It improves our skills and stamina, and we have coaches that put in good effort to help us stay in shape for the upcoming swim season. This club is definitely fun because you get to practice with your friends while also preparing for the upcoming season with high intensity workouts.” Rosary is certainly excited to see what the results of this club swim team will have on Olivia and Lucy’s performance throughout the Rosary Swim season.
This shared team also presents many unique opportunities to the students who participate, including a community environment. Aiden Moore ‘24 describes what it’s like swimming with Rosary students: “The thing that inspires me most is all the girls watching me, which makes me want to go faster so I don’t embarrass myself.”
The SoCal Aquatics Rosary and Servite team is an important new opportunity for both the Rosary and Servite swim programs.
