This past Friday, Servite football enjoyed another big win, defeating La Mirada High School 60-14.
Before the game, a tailgate was held for families and students to socialize, eat, and get into the “Gold Out” theme for fans.
Senior Keira Lambert visited some of the tents and stated, “I am so excited for the game! I love the theme ‘Gold Out,’ and I really hope I get to see my brother Jayden Lambert ’25, kick on the field.”
Another event that took place before the game was the Future Friars/ Future Royals Tailgate. Both Rosary and Servite’s incoming classes got the opportunity to bond and experience pregame festivities with their future brothers and sisters.
Students were led into the stadium with a line of cheering Asylum members and got field access. The girls were able see the cheerleaders practice their routines while the boys were able to meet Servite Asylum leaders and a few of the football players.
The game began at 7 p.m., with Servite quickly scoring their first touchdown in the first quarter. The crowd roared for the team as the Asylum did what they call “Going Crazy,” which involves the students jumping and cheering with each other as the Asylum leaders play victory music.
Isabella Montano ’24 was ecstatic about the game and cheered along with the Asylum. She said, “It’s been a great experience! I love being with my friends and cheering on the team. It wasn’t what I expected but the Asylum was super fun to be in.”
Right before halftime, a slight drizzle started, but that didn’t take away from the Asylum’s spirit. Servite senior Matthew Ghebrial stated, “The energy in the Asylum is my favorite part about our football games. It’s the end of the week, so I’m not afraid to cheer until my voice is gone. It’s the strongest bond I feel with my peers because it doesn’t matter who you are or who you’re next to as long as you’re a voice in the chaos.”
The Asylum had constant energy, especially since Servite managed to score 4 more touchdowns by the end of the second quarter.
During the 4th quarter, Servite scored another touchdown. The students section reacted to this by inexplicably but gloriously belting out the lyrics to “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver.
Fans walked out of the stadium exhilirated. Senior Marissa Carbajal expressed, “The game was superb. The Asylum can only be described as a madhouse, in a good way of course. We owned this game.”
An avid member of the Asylum Jake Ratzlaff ’24 stated, “It was a good game for sure. It’ll be exciting to see when the team goes up against the next challenge.”
Servite has another home game at Cerritos College this Friday at 7 p.m. against Los Alamitos. Make sure to come in your best 80’s outfit!
