A window into the seniors’ futures
April 27, 2023
May 1. If you’re a senior, you probably just felt a cold chill overcome you upon seeing that date. If you’re not a senior, you’ll soon come to get that same feeling since May 1 is national college commitment day. While we have not approached that date yet, many seniors have come to finalize their college decisions.
Chances are, if you’ve walked past Room 201, you’ve seen a wide array of bright colors and the names of your favorite seniors plastered up on the window. Mrs. Ward has willingly offered up her class window for seniors to write their names and college choice. When I asked Mrs. Ward about her inspiration behind the wall, she mentioned, “There’s so much work that goes into seniors choosing their school and we don’t really have a platform to share it. I love the wall because it encourages the underclassmen that their hard work will lead somewhere and allows for seniors to share their accomplishments!”
With the pressure of broadcasting such a huge accomplishment in the nicest possible handwriting, the Class of 2023 has definitely designated some resident artists (Giselle Tolentino ‘23, Katriel Cenabre ‘23, and Bridgette Sanders ‘23 to name a few) to showcase their choices.
Senior Daniela Arias expressed her excitement in stating, “It felt like the best feeling ever, and I didn’t even write my own name up there. It was such an exciting thing that I was scared to write it so I had Bridgette do it. It’s so exciting to share and see where my other classmates are going and it made me really proud of myself and all of my other classmates too.”
Junior Liana Enright mentioned, “Seeing the senior window is really cool because I love to see where my friends are going to college. I also have class with a lot of seniors in that room, so I love seeing how excited they are to write their college on the wall when they’ve finally committed!”
While I have yet to convince one of my friends to write my college commitment in its most aesthetic form, writing our names on that window puts into fruition the hard work we have put in these past four years. I am beyond excited for all of my friends and I as we get ready to enter this new stage of our lives, cheers to the class of 2023!
