Recently, a new obsession has struck, and it’s all Victoria Bush’s ’23 fault. It all started when her mother gave her the iPhone 14 Pro for her birthday. She didn’t ask for it, but nevertheless, she needed it. While it started off with Minecraft let’s play videos, Tori longed for more. Looking at her empty home screen, Tori decided her fate: she would redownload Minecraft. 

Of course, Kendall Clarida ’23 was vulnerable to this addiction as she too was looking for ways to fill the void. Kendall and Tori were FaceTiming and Tori willingly shared her screen while playing Minecraft. Kendall was once again hooked. But again, it’s not her fault that her dad approved the purchase in the App Store.

Now they spend their nights mining, collecting lumber, building fortresses, watching bumble bees, and getting lost in the vast world of Minecraft (Literally they can’t find their way back to their base. They’re amateurs). 

But it’s all okay because they’re exploring their childhood wonder just like “The Little Prince” told them to. Even though Mr. Bevins is losing his hope in their creative writing abilities, their Minecraft addiction proves otherwise. They can do creative things. Just not for any academic assignment. They are just children at heart, and they can create wonders through the mystical and animated Minecraft blocks. 

Minecraft even inspires them as it does many other gamers. In the irreplaceable pixels, they can be gardeners, miners, architects, interior designers, chefs, fashion designers, and even warriors if that is their vibe (They’re too chicken for that though. Those Ender Dragons are scary). Luckily, there are options for weaklings. This beautiful thing called peaceful mode. It allows them to imitate their hunter-gatherer ancestors while avoiding zombies, spiders, and those annoying, anxiety-inducing creepers. 

All they want is to feel happiness in this world, and Minecraft does it for them. Bad day at school? Go find diamonds. Have seven missing assignments? Go find a wolf to domesticate. Dropped your coffee in your car? Build a tree house. Minecraft is reliable. It is there for them. Always.
