February marks Black History Month, an annual observance of Black experiences and achievements in the United States. This month, you can appreciate and uplift Black voices by celebrating Black artists and authors, and by supporting Black-owned businesses. Here are just a few local, Black-owned businesses you can support during Black History Month.

1.AoSA Coffee

Located in Huntington Beach, AoSA Coffee is a convenient and accessible way to support Black-owned businesses. The shop offers a wide variety of coffee options, ranging from drip to cortados, and also sells breakfast and baked goods. Additionally, art and build gifts are available for purchase at AoSA.

2. Made by Yub

Made by Yub is a Black-owned, made-to-order pastry company based in the greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas. All deserts are made by Yub from scratch, with recipes passed down to Yub from her grandmother. Offering gluten-free, vegan, and dog-friendly options, these pastries meet a wide variety of dietary needs/restrictions. Yub will have a pastry booth at CycleBar in Irvine on Saturday, Feb. 18 in celebration of Black History Month.

3. Power Pudding

Launched by fitness instructor Summer Jordan, Power Pudding markets a wide variety of chia seed puddings for all to enjoy. Summer initially started the company while creating the perfect pudding recipe, and now sells her puddings online. Power Pudding products are also available for pick-up at Porrovita Juice Bar in Newport Beach.

4. Laguna Candles

Laguna Candles is a Black-owned, family business located in Laguna Beach. Dedicated to providing customers with a luxurious experience, the brand sells a wide variety of artisan candles. Their products are sustainable, and free from animal cruelty, phthalates, parabens, pesticides, and sulfates. Laguna Candles also creates jobs for local residents, and forms partnerships with surrounding small businesses to promote economic prosperity for all.

5. Tribute Coffee House

Tribute Coffee House is an adorable, sit-down coffee roaster in Garden Grove. At Tribute, you can pick up made-to-order drinks and food, or enjoy a sweet treat in-house. From delicious pastries to lunch foods, Tribute’s extensive menu is sure to satisfy all palettes.

Whether it’s through money, time, or advocacy, supporting Black-owned businesses creates jobs, supports local economies, and helps close the racial wage gap. When we contribute towards Black-owned businesses, we uplift communities and promote inclusive productivity. Hopefully one of these Black-owned businesses sparked your interest, and you can celebrate this month in a conscious, appreciative way.
